I now play D and D+1 only. 4 to 7 Civs, full barbs. I do Despot, Monarchy, SOLiberty, Fundy, Demo, Fundy until about 1700 AD, then Demo or Fundy depending upon Happiness. The Civ's keep up. No matter what....... i am bored by their cheats and losing interest in the game......looking around - this seems to be a phase. So, if it is a phase....how many moons must i endure this?

You will endure the comp being close to you as long as you keep changing governments. Stay with one government and trade. (That means stay with democracy and trade.) Democracy is quite easy to maintain once you learn all the tricks. In d+ you will nead to crank out the lux, but they go much farther in d+.

As per the Professor, you should consider Democracy rather than Fundy for building up your civilization; likewise, consider the Republic instead of Monarchy. Both Republic and Democracy yield considerably quicker rates of scientific acheivement; and with WLC/PD, demographic growth only adds to this advantage. These two government are the best for achieving supremacy over the AI civs.

I dont want to commit heresy, but have you taken a look at C-EVO at: [http://www.c-evo.org/] ?

This site has a free Civ-clone where the AI:s are not allowed to cheat.
That is: the game mechanics are designed in such a manner that the game itself serves a number of players, one may be a human and the others are custom written AI:s, who dont have access to anything other than what the player have and the AI:s themselves can be designed/written by users, independent of the basic game itself

The truth is, that in my book, the Sid Meier Civ1/Civ2 game is the "TRUE" civ games, but I *do* enjoy trying out other games as well, though sofar "SM Civ1/2" is my favourites all categories (and SMAC of course!!!).

Why not try playing a scenario or two for variety. This will get you away from what can be a routine process of having to build a civ from scratch.

Both CFC and Apolyton have extensive libraries of downloads and there are reviews available for some. If you need help in finding good scens, post your preferences. There should be no shortage of suggestions from other players. ;)
