Fighters aren't intercepting much

I've got 4 fighters stationed in a city that is getting attacked by ALOT of bi-planes and only one of the 4 is intercepting, despite all of them set for that.

Checked the XP post fight and only 1 did indeed fly up. What gives? Anybody else experience this one?

I have seen the opposite, in fact: all tri-planes that tried to pass through got shred to pieces by my interceptors...

I wonder if you are seeing the old bug that would prevent any interception when enemy bombers attack cities (bug was active at least until the last version of G&K, but did not see it yet in BNW).

My Triplanes always Intercept, once per attack and plane, as they should.

A (good) sidemark here is that I have noticed that the AI put their planes to Intercept nowadays. I was (positively) surprised when I sent my Great War Bomber to bomb a ShoSho city (that didn't have any AA-guns nearby) and an Interceptor intercepted it (and shot it down, no less). After that I had to for the first time ever use the sweep attack that fighters can do (with a dogfight as a result).

Remember that Tripes have only a 50% chance of intercept, while Fighters have 100 (it's among their promotions).

My triplanes are zero %. They work on first wave after this, never! I tryed many times. AI was atacking with 10 WWI bomber for a lot of rouds and nothing, for away from 50%. Tried on 3 diferente games, always the same.

Anti-Aircraft Guns > Oil consuming fighters

Even more so if they only intercept 25% of the time like you say!

AA guns have abysmally low range though. Fighters are better for guarding the backs of a wide invasion force.

So triplanes only intercept 50% of the time? Wow, can't believe I've played 450 hours of G&K/BNW and never noticed that.

this never worked for me in any version on civ v ever, anti aircraft guns don't do anything either

I make a few triplanes and use them as "lesser bombers" against units until they get the sortie promotion. In this respect they do ok. Once they're upgraded to fighters though, with the sortie promotion they intercept 5 tiles away, twice per turn.

I primarily use my Tripes for their reconnaissance function, for air strikes & interception secondary (until NEEDED for intercepts).

Fighters & Tripes intercept up to their full range (8 & 5).

This is really great to hear. I was always disappointed in the AI's inability to intercept.

On another thread, I discussed this a bit:

Sometimes, it appears triplanes (as well as fighters) are making interceptions despite the game making no mention of this. In a game a few days ago, I was Russia and was attacking an Inca who had 10 planes in the first city I attacked. I had 4 triplanes all set to intercept in order to cover my land forces. Well, on the first end-turn after I DoWed, I noticed that the AI had bombarded a few units, but no where near 10 of them. Sure enough, I checked the city where the enemy air units were based and the number now read 8, not 10. I'm virtually positive I could see all their cities, and the numbers of aircraft in the other cities (not more than 1 or 2 per each) had not changed. Yet I'd never been notified that I'd made any interceptions.

Thus, I am wondering if something bugged the notifications for intercepting. Because I've had this happen twice now in different games, where I have a good number of interceptors, and an enemy attacks me and appears to have fewer aircraft afterward despite my never getting a notification of a successful interception.

Question for people not seeing interceptions: Are you playing with combat animations turned off?

I have combat animations off, yes, but before BNW, I'd have combat animations off and still at least get a textual notice of each interception.

It's only since BNW that I seem to be either not getting notifications, or just not paying attention if they got moved or something.

I just ran into this bug myself. Although it appears -- for me, at least -- that it is like awhawk describes: The interceptions are actually happening (evidenced by a bomber being destroyed immediately after attacking a city and only doing 1 damage to it), but there is no textual notification of it like there was before. Also, I play with animations on, and the interception animations are not playing. It's confusing.

I am about to upgrade to WWII fighters. I'll see if this makes any difference.

Kind of a bummer, to be honest.

Update:
Nope, the problem persists with WWII Fighters as well. However, it doesn't always occur. While I was in the process of upgrading my air force, one of my old Triplanes actually did intercept a Great War Bomber properly. I am trying to figure out what actually causes the issue.
