There is a way to know what the AI is researching when you are ahead in tech and they have the money to pay full prices. A civ won't pay maximum price for a tech when they are researching it. The lower their price is, the closer to the tech they are. This is a great way to decide when to sell a monopoly tech. Suppose that 5 civs want to pay 100 gpt for Magnetism. As soon as one of them only offers 70 gpt while they have mnore to pay you can safely say that they will get it soon. That's the moment to sell it around.

The AI will generally NOT research Literature! They also seem to dislike Advanced Flight in 1.22.

I wouldn't rely on the AI skipping Literature, that still happens often enough. In gneral, the AI heads for:
- Government Techs
- Resource-free Defender (BW)
- UU-enabling Tech

I know the AI is going to go to war when they start moving SOD's into your territory. They rarely do anything subtle or that you don't notice to declare war.
