YouTuber got his hands on a special edition collector set of some sort, box is shaped like a hex with each side saying an age and having 10 symbols. This is the side that said modern.

I think the symbols look nice, you can't not have the iconic Mexican coat of arms. I think they look different enough.
What I'm wondering is how they will differentiate the Bugandan icon with a possible Zulu icon. They could emphasize the Bugandan shield having a circle in the middle and the Zulu nguni having those small horizontal stripes, but they would be very similar nonetheless. I do hope this doesn't decrease the chances of the Zulu eventually being added to the game.

Too many eagles.
Could the iron cross have worked for Prussia? I believe they used it, and Aksum's cross is in a different age. Alternatively the Brunswick skull would be cool but was also used by a certain later German regime...

I assume the iron cross will be saved for Germany.

Are we sure it'll be Prussia instead of Germany? The eagle next to the Qing dragon looks like a fit, and Germany makes more sense (it's more encompassing) than Prussia for the Modern Age.

How about add some animals? These are not the exact symbol of Zulu Kingdom of Shaka, but what Zulu people used later. (But I don't know well about SA history and society, so excuse me if there is any other context on these symbols.)

Yes, Rome said it unlocked specifically Prussia in a some of the videos.

The cross with the flared ends was used by Prussia, derived from the Maltese Cross and later also used for the Iron Cross military medal.

But the national symbol of Prussia was the Hohenzollern black Eagle on a yellow background, which was on the flag and also the national coat of arms. It's the same eagle that appears on the modern German flag as well.

The Balken Cross was the straight-sided white outlined black cross used by the Nazi state as a national symbol (technically, the swastika started out as the symbol of the Nazi Party, not the state) on vehicles and aircraft, just as the Iron/Maltese Cross had been used by the Imperial forces in WWI.

Very funny to me that we have Prussia and Russia in the game with similiar-looking icons to match

Yes. Prussia's name has been shown in several screenshots now. It's 100% Prussia over Germany.

That's actually historical. As posted above, the Prussian 'national symbol' and coat of arms was a black eagle. The Imperial Russian coat of arms and symbol, adopted by Ivan III in the 15th century, was the Byzantine two-headed eagle, also black or gold, with a shield showing Saint George slaying a dragon (which came from the coat of arms of the city and city-state/Duchy of Moscow).

That means the models for the Civ VII Civs, Imperial Russia and Prussia, both had national symbols very similar - along with Imperial Austria, which also used the "Schizophrenic Chicken" as the two-headed Eagle was derisively described.

And, as also mentioned above, both modern Germany and the current Russian Federation still use the older 'eagle' symbols on some of their flags - Germany on its national flag, Russia on some of its naval ensigns an some others, I believe.

Yes, it's been confirmed.
Another reason for allowing gamers to rename Civs, cities and Leaders, so them as wants can play as 'Germany' rather than Prussia, and those playing as Prussia can start with a capital in Königsberg or Potsdam instead of Berlin.

- And, of course, those playing Russia can have their capital in Moskva, Moscow or Saint Petersburg . . .

Oh aye I'm very aware, it's just funny to me regardless how mix-upable the two are.
Having had to paint or otherwise reproduce hundreds of 18th century European flags for minatures, I can attest to how confusing they can be - endless varieties of Eagles, Crosses and masses of heraldric symbols stuffed into every banner. The occasional simple pattern like Hessian red and white stripes or Wittelsbach Bavarian blue and white lozenges were a relief even if they were tedious to paint.

It is particularly a problem when the game requires simple, easily-identified graphic markers for Civs, units, leaders, etc and a 'real' historical model would be anything but. I do not envy the game's graphic design team squaring the circle to find graphic identifiers that are both simple and obvious and also have some relevance to what they are depicting.
