Seems to me that the solar system and space backdrop art isn't really dependent on the shape of the tiles, so surely it could work with Civ 5. However, I don't really know where to start with importing it. Any ideas? Advice?

I'm not sure what your concept is. Are you trying to make a space scenario like Battlestar Galactica or just a space background? My guess is, even if you could make a bg of it, it would be hidden by the ground gfx. For the space scenario, maybe modify the oceans to be black with little dots in them and make the land masses look like planets in Worldbuilder?

From what I could tell, the "space" you see in the FF mod is a single background rather than individual tiles, over which the terrain objects are laid. since they don't seem to be dependent on the shape of the tiles themselves, I figured it could work in Civ 5. Just don't know how to convert it...

I did some modding on FF. The space effect is actually a black background with multiple layers of star speckles. That is how you achieve the parallax effect (different parts of the star field move at different speeds when you move around the map).

So maybe it would still work if you took the file from FF and import it into WorldBuilder?
