Finally, gotten rid of Civ3!!!

BTW, civ is not like these forums in one respect: I can quit playing civ for awhile, but verry rarely can I ever quit coming to these forums.
True. I, too, come here about twice a day, even when I'm not currently playing.

I admire your courage in deleting the game. I wish i could do the same and stop wasting so much time playing it...I'm always behind on my other work

The younger brother of a good friend of mine went through something very similar. Unfortunately, he was in college at the time. His grades began to suffer horribly -- and he blamed it all on CivIII (and his lack of discipline). He uninstalled the game, entirely, on two different occassions. He obviously, ended up reinstalling before too long. On his 3rd attempt to "get away" from Civ, he uninstalled the game, cracked the CDs and threw the whole mess into the garbage.

Needless to say, he hasn't played since.

Well, from what I have heard on here, seems like folks are having a real problem getting it over with civ3. Especially that kid in college, I know how it feels, to fail classes due to over-civving.
I am trying to switch to other games that is not very addictive, such as UT 2004 and Silent Hill 4, and a little bit of Simcity 4 Rush Hour. I will see how it goes.

I gave up on Civ3 a couple of weeks ago. I just got bored of the game. But I know I will return to it someday. Lately I've been playing alot of Morrowind.

I sneak civ in every day.. when im home in the morning getting ready for class.. it's civ till the last minute.. when i come home, it's civ.. and right now while im at work; at temple (university), i'm on these forums.. not guarding the computer lab door....
civ, the heroine of games.

I uninstalled civ3, including play the world and Conquest from my computer last night, thus ending the long and great gaming experience with Civ3.
Civ3 was the 2nd game I had ever pre-ordered in my life, the first being Resident Evil 3-PC version. Civ3 was so fun that I sometimes spent the entire night civing, w/o the worry of food or sleep. Othertimes, I spent hours modding the game to my own liking. I got pretty bad reputation among friends for being such a mass killer, wiping out the whole race at times. LOL, that was fun, even as recent as two weeks ago, it helped me killed great amount of time in JFK airport when my flight to Hong Kong was delayed for more than 4 hours.
I declare that the age of Civ3 is over and I will no longer be playing this game, not till civ4 is out.

To begin with. It sound more to me like you are talking about how you ended a relationship with a beautiful girl on some paradise iland.

Anyway. The thing about playing all night long... I know that feeling. Let me put it this way. Been there, Done that, doin it no more...

P.S. Since you've been spending so much time infront of your screen playing CIV3 what will you do now when CIV3 is no longer a part of your life? Is there another love in your life? Another game perhaps?

Usually when you loose one addiction you pick up another....coffee would be my recommendation... although chances are you'll still be up all night.

If you're truly serious about quitting, you'll need the patch.;)

What a brave but sad decision. But I guess you will be playing civ soon again if you continue to visit the forums. When someone has made a cool scenario you just got to play the game again.

Anyway I'm kinda forcing myself to be addictive at the moment so i can get the COTM finished in time cos' I'm a bit behind on that.

I think I've had several periods of civing since it came. And quite long lasting breaks in between.

When your girlfriend is about to come over and you're desperately hoping she'll be late so that you can play one more turn, there's definitely something wrong.

The story of my life

I was installing simcity4 on my pc at the same time I got rid of civ3. Right now I am trying to play Silent Hill 3 and Prince of Persia: SoT. But for the most part, I just chat with friends online.

Did you feel like you were betraying something when you uninstalled? I did that once... I couldn't look myself in the eye for weeks.....;)

I tend to go through 'cycles', where I remember a fun game, install it, play it for a while, then get excited about another game, install it, play it for a while, etc, etc, etc. Ad infinitum.

For example: I was playing Diablo 2 a few weeks ago, then RaR came out. So I'm playing that. But lately, I've been remembering the pure brilliance of Deus Ex, so I might play that soon.

Just as a finishing note, I've only uninstalled Civ3 once. Other games may come and go, but Civ3 will live on my hard drive forever :)

That's the spirit! :goodjob: Same here...

The only thing that might possibly supplant Civ3 on my PC is Civ4, like Civ3 did Civ2.

My PC hasn't been Civ-free (counting Test of Time) since Civ1... though I do play other games at times, I always come back to Civ sooner or later.

I told my wife today I'll play "one more game after I finish the one I'm on," and then I'll put the disk away until January. If CIV III works like CIV II did, I'll fall into a comfortable 3-binge-a-year pattern over the next several years...
