Finding treasures and lost cities - possible hint

A lot of times the "treasure" maps say something is 'in the vicinity of' a city or town, and it makes it much harder to find the buried treasure, lost city or lost relative.

I THINK I've noticed that when you first go ashore, thought, the compass is pointing you in exactly the right direction to find the "treasure" (but you may have to detour around landmarks). This has made it easier for me to find the "treasures" even with a partial map, as long as the partial map shows me a town or a treasure marker.

Try this hint and let us know if it works for you! :)

Actually, the compass points north when you land.

It is slightly disorienting as it always points north. so when you turn to the east, it points to what you would think of as west. And when you turn to the south it looks like it points south. (Actually behind you is north.)

What I meant was to use the '8' key to go forward - you're facing the 'treasure'.

Of course, after I posted this, the next few times I tried this approach, it DIDN'T work, but in my experience it seems to work a lot of the time. SOMETIMES, instead of leading to the actual 'treasure' when you go forward, it leads instead to one of the landmarks you can see on the map if you have all 4 pieces of the treasure map.

This has helped me out a few times when I've gotten one of those maps that say something like 'North of Vera Cruz' with no cities/towns or named treasure landmarks on the map. But that MAY just be coincidence.

It is sheer imagination and does not work at all. The human mind often sees connections where there are none, and this is the case here.

Better land at a landmark you can recognize and walk straight to the suspected spot.

The best bet is to follow the coastline, if you have one, that is it.

Yeah, since I posted my original note, I've found many times where my 'trick' didn't work, but I never considered it was my imagination at work. Rather, I just assumed it was my deranged, sleep-deprived mind 'working' :crazyeye:
And if I have a landmark to go by or a town shown on the 'treasure map', then I never have any problem finding my way; the only real problems are with maps with no landmarks saying something like 'in the vicinity of Campeche'.
