Firaxis: Inherited Unhappiness is Ridiculous

Could someone clear something up for me?
Sorry, i don`t know the exact mechanics, but I did read something from dan at Firaxis to the effect of:

With 1.16 if you made 3 citizens unhappy, but the town went down to size 2 the missing guy was deleted. Thus, if the town then grew again, The guy added would NOT be unhappy. Now, the unhappiness is transfered to a time when one of the two guys comes off his 40 turns or when the tonw grows - i. e. the new guy will be unhappy for 40 turns or for the time remaining if the growth took place after more than 40 turns were over.

Now imagine a city size 12 rushed down to size 1. This guy is multiple unhappy (11 times - thus even 8 lux + temple won`t get him out. And now here`s the problem: even though his unhappiness is multuiplied by 11, making it practically impossible to make him content (thus making town growth impossible), he will still have to sit off 11 times 40 turns times a factor that is never explained. It has to do with the adding up effect (11 times unhappy), but somehow the factors so small that I`ve had cities in unhappiness from 1000 BC to 1900 AD.....

Just an update on my town as mentioned in the original thread:

It is now 1710 AD and the town is finally producing like all my other big cities...actually a metropolis now, like size 14 or 15, with no unhappiness. I do have all eight luxuries, and all city improvements available are built. Although very frustrating for thousands of years, at least they finally came around!:D :D
