all your base are belong to us
Whoever approved of this should be shot. Or at least fired for being drunk. I thought this fad had died already.

Never seen that and I have lost alot.:D Plus, I don't believe you because you can change those line in 5 secs:rolleyes:... really think I'd fall for that?

That stupid line is in the Diplomacy .txt file. Here is a hunk of it:

. . ."Ah, $PLAYER0. I was expecting you. Shall we discuss the terms of your surrender?"
"All your base are belong to us!"
"I am glad that you have come, $PLAYER0. Come, let us work together to end this bloody conflict!"
"$PLAYER0, welcome. Do you desire to end the war with $CIVNAME5?"
"Greetings. We are at war: what do you have to say to me?". . .

That's been complained about before, months ago. I posted on that and pasted another forumer's complaint. I just think it juvenile and silly - but about 89th on the list of Civ 3 problems.

I'm more concerned about the AI basically prefering sometimes to be exterminated than to surrender.

Oh, I don't hate it much at all. I'm just being silly. And it's back.

I totally forgot about this until now. In fact, I'm going to see if people are still selling AYB t-shirts. Maybe I can get one.

Thet thought the fad was dead... They were wrong!

well I've seen it when the Japanese try to extort money off me. But honestly, I thought it was kinda amusing. There are bigger gripes I have with the game...

*shrugs*

Me too. I also liked Shaka's biting "Three words: Increase your medication" and King Alexander's response when I said "I am approaching your cities, make peace now". All he said was "not a chance. Come on and die!" He seemed to accept when I said I had overextended my borders though... Odd fellow.

I like tokugawa's "War, huh, good god y'all, what is it good for. absolutely nothing!" spiel :) I never saw the all your base thing, but i still think it's funny.

Also to Zouave:
How many items are on that list? You must have made it fairly generic for that to only be 89th.

Whiners steep to a new low!
they now also whine about what jokes are hidden in the game.

How can a joke be death? other than its just no longer a hype.
I don't see your point anyway. how can you complain about AYB being used in a game? Whats next? do the chinese have a dull colour? Ohh, the humanety!

Who the hell cares about this. Its a silly little joke Firaxis put in there. What difference does it make? Or are you still losing at chieften and upset about it?

I don't get the joke, could someone explain it?

I've seen the "All your base..." quote somewhere before and I can't remember where , now. It confused me at the time then, too.

Jason: The joke refers to a miss translation in a stupid video game called Zero Wing. It is an inside joke on "engrish" that is not all too inside anymore, nor all too funny. I don't and can't take offense to this line, as some have, but I don't find it all that funny either... oh, well...

I think its very good - I didnt think this is a problem but somethign that adds to the game - if you hate it that much just take it out.

Why is that anti-firaxis posts are being written by people who can't spell now?

The quality of writing thoughout Civ3 is disappointing. SM's Alpha Centauri was really excellent in this regard, intelligently written for adults, very rich in pseudo-history and social philosophy. Civ3 is so juvenile it's embarrassing. Different publishers, yes, but perhaps more revealing about Sid's level of participation in making the games. The childish, superficial text in Civ3 seriously reduces my appreciation for the game and says to me that Sid didn't care much about this one.

There isn't that much talking for you to anybody to really care about. Only in the diplo screen barely, and those advisors say a few things, and at the end.
