When I use Firefox on my Vista computer, there is a large white bar at the bottom of my screen for some unknown reason. It's not part of the window either, it's under the status bar. I might not mind except for the fact that it takes up valuable (on this laptop) screen space and it may be malware of some kind.

It could be some extension incompatibility. Try starting Firefox in safe mode
 
It works in Safe Mode, but I can't figure out which addon is causing it. I've already tried disabling them, one at a time, but can't get any results. When I switched to different themes, one or two of them had patterns in the bar.
 
Found it! A third-party password manager was the culprit. Thanks GVBN.
