First Half of the 20th Century Mod
Well, the whole idea for this sprang from an annoying 2 months without a computer or Internet. You see the problem is, after playing FFH constantly for that amount of time you begin to wish you had the internet again sos to download a different mod.
Well, I didnt have the Internet so I had to improvise. Id add a Civilization here and there, maybe some extra civics or something but it still felt a bit normal and eventually I realized that the time I spent making each of these minor modifications to the game wasnt worth the time that I played them. So, I stopped and thought...
I thought about many things; politics, life, cheese, that impending history exam that I should really have been revising for and various other things. Then one morning I thought Hey, wouldnt it be fun to create a Mod on all the stuff in the 20th century. Of course when I got down to looking over what I should be doing I decided that not everything could be fitted in if I wanted to have a chance of making it, so I settled with the dates 1900-1959. That would cover the build up to world war one, the Roaring Twenties, The Depression, Hitlers rise to Power, The Second World War, Many socialist revolutions, Sputnik (Beep, Beep, Beep) and all sorts of other stuff so I set out to try and do it and not get myself killed in the process.
I had many ideas at first so Ill list a few of the best ones:
Technologies
-A new tech tree (For obvious reasons) for which here is a plan
Youll notice that some techs are coloured in different colours to the rest:
Green representing Europeans
Bright, light blue representing Western Powers
Dark blue representing Germany
Orange representing Britain
Red representing Socialist Nations
Dull, light blue representing America
Olive representing nations that have used Guerrilla tactics
Purple representing South and Central American nations
Brown representing Russia
And Pink representing China
Now the Idea with these is that only countries that fit those conditions can research the technologies however they can be traded with other nations; this representing some nations historically discovering certain things. For example the early technologies involving the European Alliance system can only be researched by Europeans and the 1920s boom can only be started by America. However some technologies such as General Relativity can be researched by anyone.
Civics
I also plan to add some Civ/region specific Civics as they will allow nations to specialise but still have civics that other nations can adopt from the same technology. For example on discovering Socialism Russia could adopt a Soviet for its Government, Socialism for its Ideology and Planned Economy for its Economy whereas America could only adopt Planned Economy. There will also be 3 Civics that will only be available for a set amount of time; Roaring Twenties, Reich Church and Nazi Economy.
Here are the Civics that I propose:
Other than this Im not sure entirely what I want to do with the mod; whether I want to make it a scenario with events or just a mod. Im thinking that I could do it as a world map with various nations and maybe some declaring independence in a RFC sort of style. Im also thinking of taking it further and having nation not actually researching technology but the techs being given to the nations at historical times. But thats all idle speculation, for now Id like to get the basics done.
Also Im still only learning the trade of the modder. Ive been doing it for myself for a while but usually nothing more that the basics so Im going to be learning as I go through this and any help and advice would be most welcome.
