Hi

Is it possible to have flat world instead of globe - I personally don't like globe when zoom out.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried launching a custom game? For the World Wrap variable, choose "Flat". I think this will get what you want, although you won't be able to exit the left side of the map and appear on the right side.

Yes I think I chose that but many turns later it changed into globe.

It's not possible to make the zoomed-out view look like anything other than a globe, unless the regional map types have a flat display. Why would you want it to? You'd have to scroll right the way across it to get to things which are right next to each other at the seam.

I like Civ 1's world map - A whole map of world to see more clearly - I know in Civ4 you can, but you only need to click military advisor for that.

I just want to see a whole world map. Is that hard to make one? I don't understand why Sid did not include that in every Civ game except Civ 1.

What does the world wrap change anyway? I've always picked "globe" because I'm thinking it might actually change how units are affected in moving around. That is, in a globe, you move in any direction in a straight line and come back to where you start. But if you do a "FLAT" world, does that mean east and west never meet, nor do north and south? And in a "Torus" world, does moving east-west bring you all the way around but going north-south just carry you around your part of the donut?

For most civ games, you never reach the point where you'd have the technology to reach the poles anyway, and besides, in cold regions, it takes longer to travel, so the squares are actually "equi-time measurements".

Use your imagination buddy.

Or if you prefer: read LOTR. We used to have a flat world!

If you choose a custom game and a smaller map size (duel or tiny) with one of the custom land settings, it WILL be a flat planet and not give the globe view. It is possible

am i doin somethin wrong here? no matter what setting i choose when i start and zoom out the world is flat.

what am i doin wrong?
