First time I try to load civ3 from a fresh load I always get this error but never after that. Windows98se. Conquest 1.22

Font error
Error loading font (Error Code:28)!!
The game will now exit

Which it then does.

I also have a problem with civassist 2 freezing up if the game is also running. No idea if this is related or not.

I had this font error before. Its a corrupt file. You go to start-run and type in DSKCHK(or something like that). Restart the computer and the computer will check you diskdrive and get ride of the corrupt file.

You mean scan my hard drive for errors? Already did that earlier this month (and a defrag 10 days ago) Running "dskchk" did nothing, windows 98 found no file with that name.

So what now? Reinstall? Is it important to uninstall before reinstalling? Is there any less severe options? (assuming that even works)

Well, that's what gives you a Code 28 error, so it's odd it didn't fix it. Are you sure you moved the right file? Do you do anything else to your installation before you tried this? If so, try a clean installation and delete/rename the LSANS.FOT (not LANS.TTF) file.

Fingers crossed.

Edit: I wonder if its something to do with Windows 98SE?

Do anything to the installation like what? Yes It was the exact file you indicated by name in conquest directory.

It was the exact file, but I just went into the directory and found a second one that appeared. I removed that one as well, I'll let you know if that fixes it.
