Food, Citizens and Science

Each citizen in Civ 5/6 contributes a certain amount of science in your cities. Do pops/citizens/food in any way contribute toward your science yield in 7?
Apparently not directly
Population (that you get from Growth Events) is either
1. Rural Districts
or
2. Specialists (placed up to the limit in Urban tiles)

Specialists generate 2 science+2culture each (and some more based on what is in their tile)

The yields have been largely revamped in 7. They look similar but i suspect they will play quite different so comparing to previous games is a bit pointless. It doesn't really matter whether or not all your uneducated medieval peasants contribute to science (which doesn't make much sense, at least not before an hypothetical 4th age). What's important is that the sources are balanced so that everyone can progress while players who invest in science are rewarded for their efforts but not to a point of reaching total domination of the world after a couple dozen turns. In other words: enough base science for everyone but not too much to make science irrelevant. Enough extra science to reward players who pursue it, but not too much either (although age transition "resetting" progress will help prevent the crazy science snowballing that occurred in previous titles).
