Fortresses and Barricades

My question is: Can you still make use of their defensive bonus while they are in another civ's territory? I know that radar towers have to be in your territory for you to use them, but I wasn't sure about fortresses and barricades.

I think that any unit defending a fortress or barricade gets the advantage, no matter who 's territory it's in. And if I am wrong, someone will come along and correct me.
