If you decline a founding father can you later on choose him and if so how do you do it?

once you tell him to get lost, he really get lost

pehaps he try to swim back to europe, or travel in the jungle (we have to feed the cannibals!), or find another european colonie if they ring some bells to get his attention

No pat answer. Depends how many points of each type you have stored up.

Some Founders will re-appear if you pass them up (provided no one else snags them). Others won't. I think if you have more points available than a Founder costs, he won't reappear.

A lot of Founders have gimp abilties. Just skip them, grab the useful ones, and then if towards the end you can get some that you passed up, yay. The important thing is to get the Founders that really benefit you (such as Pocahontas, Ben Franklin, James madison, etc)

I haven't been offered any FF a second time once I've turned him down.

Every time you accept a FF your points in his specialty and political points are reduced (one of them to zero). So your points levels will be constantly building up past those FF you didn't want in the first place and to be offered them again every time you reached their threshold would be a real pain. I like the strategic decisions you have to make to decide which FF to go for. A little bit like Wonders in Civ.

I never seen a refused FF reappear either. And i think they aren't supposed to.

the xml quote by the ones who check say the contrary

Well, guess I got confused due to times when multiple founders were offered to me during the same turn, and I refused them because I was waiting for one who was at the very end of the points spectrum.

I know many of the same founders were offered to me over and over again, during the 8-9 turns I waited to build points. If I wasn't refusing them, what was I doing? I was surely passing them up...

open your manuel page 52... it say once you refuse a ff, you'll never see him again

if it really happened to you (there are bugs after all), you can just post a save to prove it anyway

*cough* Peter Minuit *cough*

He was critical in the first game, and he's critical in this one. My early game involves how to get him before anyone else.

Tradewind

Early on I would say John Winthrop is important. At least if you go for the "Build as many settlements as possible early on"-strategy.

I had Cyrus McCormick show up twice...first time I nixed him because I was already up to my eyebrows in cotton.

I've had quite a few founding fathers pop up a second time. It looks to me like they will always return, as long as none of the other european powers have grabbed them.

This is weird. Some forumers seem to get founding father to pop up again, some don't. Personally, I have never seen that happen. I've played quite a few games now, and it never occurs.

I have no proof but I think if the FF you turn down is not picked up by another country it will be available again if you drop below the FF points needed for it.

I've had games where some re-appear, and other games where none re-appear. I'd say it's a numbers thing, if you happen to drop below the required ## there seems to be a chance (not for sure) of a second offering.
Peter Minuit - required! Saves a fortune over the whole game.
