We now see pretty much where everything is in our immediate area and I feel we might be able to plan out where to put our fourth and fifth cities. I've stated already my belief that 4 should be a harbor (and have been vindicated with tucows... err... two cows), but where do we put it? Same question for 5. Is there anywhere great we can get for it?

(a note: for writing and some cash, the Germans will give us IW and the Wheel, so that could factor in for 5)

(Carried over from City #3 thread)

I agree with Furiey. We should change the City #4 location to fit with the cows. Here's my suggestion:

This seems to be a strategic location that can block the advance of the french from Lyons. I agree, because we need more protection as we are backwards and our army is still weak so they will declare war more easily. We must protect Olympus by placing most of our units there.

The location is very good. We should also note French troop movement as the French are at war with the German Reich. They may want to use Fanatikos as a location to move troops into Germany. And we should watch the German border near Civatonia for German troop movements.

Find with me, but I prefer grids... easier to see. Proposed sites 4 and 5..

I suggest grabbing the NE one first just to deny it from the Romans. We're lucky to have all these rivers! Looks like 3 of our cities will have nuclear powerplants by game's end.

the dot is fine with me. for city number five i think in the area of civatonia to create more of border on the germans. or, between the stable and civatonia, this would make a half-circle city placement, giving us a nice bubble of defense for olympus. i think we should build on a river, somewhere near the giant forest.

We won't claim the Furs with that city 5 while the Roman city is there as it will claim it with it's 1st expansion and have priority over our 2nd expansion. Of course, once the Roman city is "gone" :mischief: the furs will be ours!

Grids definitely make it easier to see.

Now I think that we should found city 4 near the german border to the east, as the germans are more dangerous than the french and surely will move more troops to our borders than Joan d'Arc. So, let's found city 4 near Civantonia, then let's found city 5 on the coastal area. Our priority is to protect Olympus.

If we build a city on the coast we can get the cows and a coastal city. But if we don't, we risk jeopardizing Fanatikos security but leaving the German border left alone. We should build the city on the coast.

Of course, this may all change when we see where the Iron and Horse are. We may have to compromise for a less than ideal city location to get one or either of these resources. If the next turnchat is unlikely to be until Wednesday next week, perhaps there is time to have a special session before then to do the trades so that we can see where the resources are and plan accordingly.

We should really sette our cities where they have 21 full tiles. This is a 5CC (and then some), so we shouldn't be overlapping tiles.

I agree with Chieftess on this one, although we shouldn't get out of hand. We risk a porrly defended city if we try to claim too much land by spreading ourselves too thin.

Which leads me to my second point: there is a lot of unclaimed land between our cities, even once they reach 21 tiles. For this reason, we will need to patrol our borders and watch for seemingly harmless pioneers from other nations. I would hate for us to have to fill our nation with rubble because one of our "friends" plopped an ill-advised city between ours.

Gotta disagree on the NE site, CT, as it has nothing to offer. If anything, we can patrol the area with Hoplites, giving us a buffer zone between ourselves and Rome.

I would explore south of Civantonia for the 5th site. We should allow ourselves harbor access to the west andsouth.

The MP crowd would call that a Sentry Net. :)

Granted... the AI's bound to fill in some gaps, and settle right on our borders.

This is the AI, so it's justified. ;) Also, what's wrong with protecting your land, even in MP? If another human player tries a shady and non-aesthetic AI tactic like placing non-contiguous cities, they should meet with some resistance.

We must protect all land that connects our cities, so our nations map doesn't resemble Swiss Cheese.
