The point is that people believe what they choose to believe often to their own detriment. Sometimes people will continue to detriment their own circumstances despite knowledge of the obvious truth. People who smoke detriment their own lives, but their actions unto themselves are none of my concern. Some people choose to drop out of school etc... I could go on. If people wish to detriment their view of reality by uncritically accepting a certain viewpoint then by all means do so, that too is none of my concern. The concept of capitalism is predicated upon wealth. And wealth naturally passes from the hands of the incompetent to the competent. That is to say, anyone skilled in the art of rhetoric can achieve pecuniary success through the application of rhetoric on the masses. This may or may not be fair or just - again it doesn't matter - it is the system currently in place and it is the means of generating wealth.

The idea of freedom of speech plays comfortably into the hands of a plutocrat because the freedom to speak or to think leads naturally to the freedom to consume.

The truth is that none of us have a perfect idea of what happened. I have as much idea of what's happening across the street in my neighbor's house then any of us know exactly what happened on 9/11. And despite official investigations, there will always be some minor inexplicable detail that a rhetorician can spin into some exciting mystery. Then he can package the idea and sell it for our consumption and his monetary gain. And unless you want to trash all of capitalism, there's not a darn thing wrong with what I just said.
