We need a direction. To achieve enough landmass to be competitive, we probably need to conquer one more of our neighbors. We need to decide who ASAP because we need to put into motion plans for our palace and forbidden palace locations.

I believe the Forbidden Palace should be placed in either Kells or Plexenburg to the west, and that our next enemy should be the Americans. Our original palace is close enough to American cities to make them reasonably productive, and would therefore not need to be moved. The location of the FP in Kells or Plexenburg rather than Kyoto brings production to our central empire where the influence of our palace is small. The western Japanese cities will still produce enough to get their culture improvements built in a reasonable amount of time, and with the addition of courthouses later should be as productive as anywhere else. Besides, Kyoto is too far north if we should find ourselves conquering Indian or Chinese cities at some point.

I beleve the FP should go to Plexenburg

Heh.. Kill our neighbors, make friends with their neighbors. Repeat process until there are no neighbors.
IMO, Our next enemy should be the last Aztec city. The Abe deserves a swift, relentless kick in the behind, with Joan and Liz helping. This way, we have defeated all neighbors that surround us. Get some more GLs. Dont stop until we do!!!!

So your proposal is to move the GL to Kells or Plexenburg and hurry the FP there. Then we go looking for a new Great Leader. Your plan is closer to my original plan than my current one is.

This will work for me, although we will have to press on until we get another GL. This will have to be our next goal. Your plan will strengthen our production and cultural base, but GL's are the name of the game. I will definitely miss the Sistine Chapel.

Kells is going to be a massive shield producing city when fully developed, I would agree with building the FP there, but Plexenburg provides a few tiles closer coverage to the furtile Japanese grassland cities.

Either one will work, I would lean toward Plex.

I have to agree with eyrei's thoughts on the Bavarian Palace. It is the best place, because the cities that surround it are our most developed, higher production cities. Moving the palace to Kyoto would be disasterous (And besides, Mayor of Bavaria wouldn't be such a cushy title without the palace :D).

As for the Forbidden Palace, a location in the west would be best, as it is likely, after more conflict, this will become an important area. I favor Octavinium, but that's just the doughnuts talking. Kells would be an excellent location, for it's more central position.

Well, the FP is up to you folks, but as to our next enemy, I say we finish what we started with Monte. It will be quick painless, and ensure that the Aztecs never again become a rival. After that, we knock that annoying hat off Abe's head with some help from the French and the Brits, and then we should be good to go for a while, IMHO.

Why Kells or Plexenburg? I would like a location that's more central to mountains and hills (for production).

I think because it is well suited for future conflicts, and because the Japanese territory is quite fertile, and will become a second powerhouse for our nation.

Forbidden Palace I really believe it should be placed in Kyoto. I would choose war with Babylon before India any day as India hasn't encroached on our territory(Bizen doesn't count) or broken an alliance to my knowledge. Kyoto would be the better site to influence Babylonian cities. Plus look at all that Ivory in Ashur! You can read all about my reasoning for immediately sending our GL to Kyoto by clicking on "Kyoto" in my sig.

Next enemyI think that after our swift elimination of the Aztecs, we should focus on America. They have been the assumed next target from the start and I don't think that should change. After we take a good part of America and a chunk of Babylon, I really think we need to focus on domestic issues and only fight when provoked. But we can discuss that later.

@eyrei-- One more thing: if we plan to act on the great idea of moving the Palace from Bavaria to Bremershaven, that will allow us to put the FP farther west as well. Yet another reason to put the FP in Kyoto.

If our next target is the Americans, then we may want to move the palace south, but not further West. That is why this thread topic includes plans for aggression as well. Anyway, also if the Americans are our next targets, then we do not want to place the FP that far west because it would leave some of the middle of our empire unproductive. Kyoto is also too far north.

@eyrei-- Bremershaven is due south of Bavaria and slightly to the west(one tile). It would enhance the production in a good part of the SW Province and some parts of Taliesin as well. It would not influence the far reaches of America as much but would be the best place at this point in our history. Tlaxcala is another prime candidate, although the production would not be as plentiful. Either of these sites would help the middle of our empire as there would be Palace influence from both sides. Try as we might, we will not be able to completely stifle corruption.

As I've said before, my reasoning for the FP in Kyoto has short-term military benefits as well. Once again, refer to my signature to see why this is imperative.

If the palace is to be moved, we do not want it farther west. This would defeat the purpose, I feel. Morgana, Palanthus, or, depending on the extent of our conquest, Padmativa, would all be good locations for a moved palace, though I state again that we really shouldn't move it at all.

I agree with Oct that the palace should not be moved further west. Our FP should be in the west, preferably in Kyoto to increase production and have short-term military benefits there. As for our next enemy I think it should be the Americans. We could gain some allies easily and there is lots of land to take from them. Also, Cleveland and Denver are becoming quite annoying.

@Octavian, if we bring the capital more inland, we have a better chance of influencing more cities. For the best results, we should try to keep our palaces off or away from the coast.

Hopefully if I keep saying this, people will eventually listen to me.;)

Kyoto is too far north to be an effective center of our empire! It is a border city, only a few tiles from tundra and a few more from the arctic ocean. Sure it will be a productive city, but it will only lose a couple shields if it is near the FP, and not the home of this building. Seriously, Kyoto is not central at all!!!!!

Well, I'm not sure where to place the FP, but I think our next target should be the Americans.

On moving Palaces: Moving the palace usually has little effect if any on empire wide corruption or waste. It does have a HUGE local impact on which cities are productive.

Wait until you can see the coal resource. If you end up with a place to build the Iron Works that is rife with corruption and waste, then move the Palace to suit. Otherwise, you are better advised to save your GL's for things that matter, such as the Forbidden Palace.
