France is less likely to stir up alarm when encroaching on Indian settlements (ie building cities, cutting forests, presence of cannons or other military units, increase in settlement size ect.). Thus you can establish friendli(er) relationships with them. Maybe even trade with them.

The benefits of Indian-friendliness are perhaps demonstrated more when the AI is French. Thier military units seem to rove with impunity among the Indian villages with minimum alarm generated.
I prefer to play the Dutch and with Pocahontas can co-exist fairly peacefully with Indians and generate much profitable trade with Indians particularly the Iroquois and higher developed tribes.
