I am unable to start the game (DX10/11) suddenly. After clicking "begin journey" the window goes away and then "freeze". Animations are also not playing.

I have validated the game files through steam (actually deleted and re-installed the game too) and ran the additional dx installers recommended by steam without success. Video drivers are up to date. My dxdiag is attached.

Thanks in advance for any help!

same thing happens when I tried DX9. I had played over 2000 hrs without this issue too.

Thanks for your help! I attached a recent saved game. Saved games seem to work ok. I can also start scenarios but not full games.

 *scratchesHead* 'kay...hmm...
Means there has to be a problem in how the first values for terrain, civs, etc. are initialized, and not e.g. a problem with the graphics, not a problem with your computer being to weak, or other things.
 please take a look in your Documents\My Games\Civ5 folder. There should be different .ini files, IIRC 3 files, one DX9.ini, DX11.ini and a third one. Please delete that 3rd file (or rename it, if you're not feeling save deleting it), and then try to start Civ5 again.
Because I think some stuff like the settings of your last game are saved in this file, and if you get rif of it, it might clear some things, like e.g. stuff which has been valid before the patch, but invalid after.
But this is a pure guess. Might be that nothing changes, but let's hope it does.

Here's a small suggestion that might work for you. Can you check if your fog of war quality is set to "high"? If it is, move it to "medium" or "low" and try again.

Thanks

When it comes to transfering files via the internet, it is not perfect science yet. There is still that variable of surprise lurking in the shadows.

Great to hear :).
But I have to say that this is a really strange problem. Probably the first time somebody has encountered this.

The good news... His issue resolved itself
The bad news... I have the same issue, posted about it, and despite following everyone's instructions cannot play Civ still...

I have the exact same problem but on a Macbook Pro (I don't think I have that Retina stuff, my I purchased it in 2011)

I'm using a 13" Macbook Pro, with Intel HD 3000 GPU (384 MB VRAM), 4GB DDR3 RAM, Intel i5 2.3 Ghz Dual Core CPU.
