Should we play another Fundy on a smaller map with AI government changes for GotM 19?

I agree with Kev. While I have wondered while playing GOTM18 what effect allowing the AI to change governments would have (dramatic, I'm sure), let's keep the idea for a future GOTM.

I agree with Kev... mixing in things like Fundy is good, and should be revisited later, but not consecutively. :)

It seems most people agree that another Fundy game would be great. I think so to, though like all the other posts so far, it would be better to do it in a couple of months time rather than for GOTM19.

Sure, why not? But I think that there is some merit with “surprise” -- so providing another twist (or a “regular” game) in the interim has value. Definitely give us a Fundy again sometime. :D

I'm wondering if people are voting properly. I read the poll to mean yes or no for Fundy in the very next GOTM. I think some people are voing yes because they think it means playing Fundy sometime in the future.

I voted yes to play the very next gotm19 as Fundy. Fundy is so strange for me, I would like more practice, right now. Even later this year would be nice ... and it seems like a good way to get more new people to play...

I also like the islands, and the computer generated map.

Alternatively, an Emperor raging islands game would be good.

LOL, you know... I think you're right! Most comments basically echo yours, and I think Smash is asking if we want a Fundy-only in GOTM 19 (from the opeining post). But after reading you comment, I realized the question in the poll is just if we want "Fundy Again?", and might be taken out of context by some.

Anyways, I answered the poll as "No" since I would like to play fundy again, but not consecutively. In fact, my vote will probably always be against doing the same thing (Fundy or otherwise) in consecutive months. ;)

Lets not torture Smash. His poll has only 16 words, and I don't thing we need to ask him to poll us again right now. It's running neck & neck, but I understand many people (even me, usually) enjoy variety.

Perhaps everyone would be satisfied if the September game were Fundy, with changes he's tested.

The poll was meant for the next one but I think we'll just play a normal game on king level next and revisit Fundy only in the future.

hehehe..actually now I think we give starlifter's free wonder idea a shot.

Any game that gives a bit of variety would be great for GOTM19. starlifter's idea would be interesting if it could be done (I'm no expert, so I don't really know).

Fundy was great, but to have it in two consecutive months would be a little boring (not that playing CivII can get boring).

If you are going to do that, I think it would be more interesting to fill the production box with 300 shields and let the player choose which wonder they want. Of course, you also have to make sure all 7 are available.

(I do not know if my suggestion is technically possible or not.)

:) It's been done for a couple days now :).

It is not only technically feasible, it is very close to what I actually did. In some ways, the 300 shields method is more elegant (e.g., better), but it would cause certain game imbalances to implement. So I chose a different way in order people to fully examine the impact of the different wonders before beginning play, while retaining the normal tech progression & costs.

Each player will get their own choice of an Ancient Wonder (AIs get nothing extra, btw), and the map (e.g., what is revealed in the start position) does seem very playable with any strategy, even a powerful OCC. It looks like every wonder would thrive in it, so the thing to consider is what you really prefer at Emperor.

In other words, this thread is very applicable to GOTM XIX... and this game should play very well, even for Warlord/Prince players... if you choose the wonder wisely ;).

PS, GOTM XIX will be posted late tomorrow evening, European Time.

Sounds really interesting. I can't wait to give it a try. Since I finished GOTM18 (even though I didn't do so well) I've been hanging out for the next game.

It's good to see that we're continuing the monthly GOTM rather than every two months as may have been suggested in the poll in another thread somewhere.
