I'm not gonna put what I think the future age should be cause they say it's 'unrealalistic', when really the singularity

suggeges that the science rate is multiplying.

There's been many articles.

But that's not what this's about. Do you think there should be an OPTIONAL future era. I agree with a passion.

I like the idea. It seems like it would be nice.
I don't see how singularities could fit in, But hovertanks, space lazers ect. would be an intreasting idea.

You say singularities like it's an object

Leave the weird science future for the modders. I'd rather have the basic game come with a properly developed historical tech tree before they get fancy with future stuff. The default Civ3 tech tree was cack.

Cack???

Plus, it won't be that tough for a simple extra optional era. Especaly if modders can do it. There's no reason not to (to me).

Put it this way. The developers are only going to have X amount of time devoted to detailing a tech tree. They can either devote that to fully developing everything up to the modern age, or making a half-arsed attempt at future speculation. I'd rather buy a game that was fully playable up to the modern age, not some skeleton tech tree with all the juicy side-tracks missing.

They wouldn't need to half-a** it, they can just borrow some of the early technologies from SMAC.

I say, leave it in the editor! i.e. there should be an 'add Era option' in the editor, one which allows a player/modder to add as many future eras as he/she wants, or even add extra eras into the main body of the game. As far as the vanilla game goes, though, I would rather have the eras end where they do in civ3!

Oh and, btw MMM, I think #1 PERSON thought you meant the singularities in space (you know, the point of a black hole where the laws of time and space break down!) Possibly being used a weapon or something ;)!

It could happen but I don't think so. I don't think it'll be the factor. They'll take there time on a game like this. There not gonna rush it, as many people tracking the game should feel  .

I'd love to see future era terraforming type stuff from SMAC, so you can connect landmass, raise terrain, do all sorts of funky stuff :-)

I don't think the 'base' game should have future era, but Modern should projetc a bit more IMHO, so you do get some more genetics stuff, (which may add food), and more advances to computers, maths (better espionage perhaps) etc

I like the idea of a future age. I hope they put it in. Something like the Digital Age from Empire Earth.

No base future era, but an expanded modern era, ie. fusion, cryogenics, etc. I think there should be a future era, but with an option to disable it or something. I also like the idea of going further than arriving at AC.

They could just make it available in the editor to add ages. Also, it's good that they are making the game modder friendly.

Yes, it was the ultimate weapons module in SMAC (attack 24)

Why add a future era when you can hardly get to the modern era in the game? rialto is right, there are too many issues to fix first.

I'm not too keen on the idea of the future, mainly because I tend to get put off by the names of things, when I dont know immediatly what they do. For example,
technology (non-future) alphabet or construction -
(future) neon telegenesis emulators or hyper discombobulators
The technology and build options always seem like an opportunity for the game designers to make up crazy science words

The thing is though, its only a future era in the basic game. Some modders would probably be happy to have another age to work with for, say the Ancient Greeks.
