While the general Hall of Fame is an ongoing competition, we like to run time-definite competitions between updates that we call Gauntlets. Standard Hall of Fame rules (*) still apply, but any games meeting the settings will be counted towards the Gauntlet.

(*) Please read the >> HOF rules << BEFORE playing!

Settings:
 • Victory Condition: Culture (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
 • Difficulty: Warlord
 • Map Size: Standard
 • Map Type: Continents
 • Speed: Standard
 • Leader: Egypt (Ramesses II)
 • Opponents: Any
 • Version: SV8
 • Date: 2nd to 16th November 2012
The earliest finish date wins, with score as a tiebreaker.

edit: Fixed.

there's a disparity between this and the website:

Victory Condition: Culture (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
Difficulty: Warlord
Map Size: Standard
Map Type: Continents
Speed: Standard
Leader: Egypt (Ramesses II)
Opponents: Any
Version: SV8
Date: 2nd to 16th November 2012

website sounds much better =p

First try: Turn 309
Lesson learned: Don't start on a map without incense or wine close by.

2nd game: Didn't do better. Tried to update and play. Game ran fluently until last turn where it wouldn't finish the turn :twitch:

Seems like my first try was actually pretty good for my standards at least, in the next 2 tries I failed to improve it and now in my 4th try where I really thought I did pretty well, I only improved it to T-255. Probably not gonna go for better, cant see a way how to get way better and I dont feel like playing another 5 games to improve it by another 3 turns or something.

Pretty curious if someone will be able to get a way better finish, like prior to T-230 or something. After reading vexing's Arabia culture win walkthrough, I guess he will :)

230ish is doable. continents makes things annoying though, to get RA partners in reasonable time you need some good map luck.

Ya I've had some good starting spots only to find I'm on a island with one other player, and they are close to start, so as usual war happens, and RAs become worthless...

I'm with you Lucarius & Genghis, two tries, T330 w/ 2 cities & T324 with 4 cities. Meh. Read Vexings walkthrough on his epic arabic game, but damn. I think he had his second city down faster on epic than I did on standard!

Hello at all.

After I got this game in September and found this forum I got really addicted to Civ5. So I want to try to participate this time.

My first try was Turn 317 with two cities.

Then I got Turn 291 and Turn 292 with one city. I got a little unlucky in both games, but in a very different way... The first one had no other AI on continent and the second one had 4x gold luxuries at starting point, but no river or coast...

Maybe I will try it again tomorrow.

Where can I find vexings walkthrough?

At the moment I tried to play absolutely peacefully, but could puppeting a few cities lead to a better result by reaching industrial earlier?

Thank you, but I don't think I have enough time now to watch it and try it again, and even applying some of the strats, because today I was in cinema for the new bond movie.

When does the Gauntlet actually close for new submissions? Do started games count in any way? When must they be finished and submitted, I dont even know the referring time zone.

Edit: Ah, I have already taken a very short look at it during the week. I think the Gauntlet setting makes it a bit complicated, because his map was not continents and way smaller.

the core concepts of a cultural victory remain the same regardless of map type and size: get the oracle, produce artists, hermitage, louvre, broadcast towers cristo redentor, finish piety, finish freedom, ally cultural CS. the faster you hit each of these points, the faster you win, so in vanilla RAs and appropriate bulbs are a huge part.

the dates listed are the final date for submissions generally, though there's not a hard set time. i think it's whenever one of the moderators has checked submissions and runs the scripts to finalize.
