G-Minor XVIII

Is that you with the top score Peets?

My game is not checked yet. I am very curious to see where I will end.
If I'm not first I will tell my score if I manage to get at the moment #1, I won't :p
But I think my end position will be 3th, just cause I really love to get a gauntlet medal ;)

I'm currently trying the major but i hope to squeeze in a second go round at the minor as i am pretty sure i can top my 1st score by a good bit. I'm not sure what the upper bound might be tho ~ the highest settler score i can see in the table is 28 k but that was a std pangaea map so maybe half ~ 2/3 of that?

how are you guys able to see the submitted and checked games? when I do a table query with the parms for this game no games show up. don't they have to be published first?

Once you submit a game and it is accepted - you can see your own game in the table for the guantlet. So you can see what position your game is and your own score but thats it.:crazyeye:

it's higher than two thirds.

thanks Rain.
Hey, this is the first time a tried for a high-score game. I finished the Culture requirements way too early and ended getting an extra 6 or 7 social policies I didn't need. I kept playing and playing waiting for my score to plateau, but it never did. I went all the way to turn 329. Is that the way it usually is?

Just read through the G-minor 11 thread and am going to try some of the strats in there. I wonder what the best time is to stop going culture and start rexing to get a good score. Guess I'll just play around with it and try to find out.

Hi shoshonte,
I think if I were to replay it, I'd stop worrying about culture when about 4 or 5 Social Policies away from the win, then start converting puppets, and rexxing. I also wouldn't worry about getting cultural city-sates as allies - just the maritimers. I won't be replaying it though - I found the last 130 turns really tedious. The best part was getting to build Giant Death Robots for the final take-out of the maritime city-states! :)

Atm I am ranked 5th with around 8300 score :(
Now I know how good I have to do with the g-major.

i think it'd be optimal to stop worrying about culture a lot sooner. getting the 5 trees done before your final score plateaus won't be a problem.

i suspect you only want tradition done, a few in liberty, a couple in piety, a couple in freedom, and a few in commerce before mass expansion. personally i finished a lot more than this, but i'm sure my score suffered because of it. once you have an established massive empire you can be buying a few broadcast towers a turn to finish up the culture part.

Hey vexing, I've posted the second best score so far, but I figure you must be the guy in front. :)
I know I must be way behind you too since my score never plateaued, and I played all the way to T329.
Just curious - at what turn did you plateau and end the game?

you may not be defining plateau correctly... i'm referring to final hof score, which is calculated basically by in game score divided by turn number. see the old score thread for more info.

i ended up stopping around turn 280.

I was using the final hof score as calculated the spreadsheet found here ... published by you, I think! :)

I finished Tradition,Liberty, Piety, and Commerce before starting my mass rex. Maybe in the future I should start earlier. There's no way I'm going to get another play through in so I'll just finish my current game and leave it at that.

yes, me too, based on vexing's comments. Also I'd be way more aggressive in puppeting non-maritime city states, and the AI cities, but not eliminate the AI too soon - so that they can colonize more cities for me.

so that they can colonize more cities for me.

i don't think this is advisable. where they plant a city could end up blocking you from a few locations.

given that you should be founding well over 50 cities an additional real city is less than a 2% increase in sp costs, not overly significant. were i doing it again, i would have annexed the cities a lot sooner.

So far I've just annexed from the get go since happiness ATM is not an issue. I just leave the cities that are untakable (Which has only been a couple so far but it seems like MCS like to settle on one tile islands that are near untakable)

Turns are beginning to be a pain as well. Score games are not as fun as speed games IMO

i personally left all them as puppets until i was completely done settling, just to cut down on the tedium of management.
i suspect optimal play is puppeting until the turn you get a social policy, then annexing.
