Game change suggestions

There are a couple of things that I would really like to see added into this game.

First, they really need to add in a worker option to build a canal. I know this has been mentioned elsewhere, but it bears repeating. This could be limited to a single square, or maybe 2, but it is realistic. I have seen many continents where I could have a realistic passage through the continent using lakes and such, but there is no ability to build canals. Cities are great for this, but not always practical. It is also somewhat unrealistic to be able to use a city for a canal, but not be able to build a canal otherwise.

Second, I would really love to see unit histories. It would be interesting to see the history of a unit from the time and place where it was built, to the wars it has participated in. Real military units prize their histories and keep campaign streamers on their flags. It just seems like it would add a good deal of interest in a late game where there is not much else going on other than mopping up small disconnected civs.

Hi Jyhawk, welcome to CFC. :band:[party]

Both suggestions would be interesting, but unfortunately at present both suggestions can´t be done with Civ 3, even in the latest edition C3C. And as Firaxis doesn´t give the civers the source code - probably because they fear that in this case Civ 3 would become much too strong compared with the puny Civ 4 and Civ 5 - it seems nothing here will change in the next time. May be the only thing you can do with units in the direction you posted, is to put some of the battles in your unit´s name.

Thanks Civinator. I know that these things are little more than a pipe-dream, but there is always a chance that the modifications could be made.

Another change that I would like to see is in trading. When a civilization has several extra of a particular resource, I should be able to trade for multiple units of that resource. If I have taken the time to do lots of exploration to build trade routes, I should be able to benefit from that effort. The civilization that controls the resources at the point of origin can always cancel the deals once the expire if they have built their own trade routes, and in the meantime it allows the resources to reach those civs that need them. This change would also more accurately reflect actual history.
