Hey guys,
I've read a lot of posts trying to see if any others had this problem and it doesn't seem like it. Heres the deal: I load the game up and the menu runs fine. I can get to all of the submenus. I click on Play Now, or Custom Game and it still runs fine. I do all the menus and then the game loads up. I press the Done button after teh load screen and the game freezes to black. It's as though the game is getting stuck between the loading screen w/ the great Mr. Spock and the game itself. On the left hand side it even says that I have entered the game and that it has autosaved.

Help!

I have the EXACT SAME problem.

Swamp specs?

AMD 3500+ Winchester (939)
1GB of Corsair value select RAM
PNY 6600GT (x1)
Asus A8N-SLI Del.
Windows XP Pro SP2

Similar at all? I'm really pissed off at this game.

I had a similar issue but one of the patches seems to have resolved it. But before the patching, I had to Alt-Ctrl-Del back to Windows then back into Civ4 and the game screen magically appeared. It is like you say, it seems to bottleneck the system and it displays nothing when starting a new game or reloading one.

I'm guessing you have patched it with 1.52 and updated your video drivers? Could always post a DxDiag file and see what other people can offer as a solution.

I'm running close to the min requirements, but the demo worked fine so I bought the game.

512 RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon 9200
Win XP Pro SP2
1.8 Intel Processor

How do i post the dxdiag? I'm new at this.

Thanks,

I've found that if i lowered my hardware accelteration one notch and Alt+Tab out of the game to another program before I hit the 'Play Now' button the game will usually run. (It has both times I've tried this.) What gives?

ive had the same problem too, what do you mean "lowered my hardware acceleration"? how do you do that?

right click on the desktop -> Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> Troubleshooting. The hardware acceleration slider is there. Mine works best when the slider is two notches down from the right. I have no idea why so don't ask. It just does.
