Game crashes when I try and load a game

If I exit out of the game, I can not load my saved game without the game crashing out to desktop. I could load the game as long as I hadnt exited. WTH? Let me know if you have experinced the same problem or know a SOLUTION (please let there be a solution). I dont much like the idea of starting over everytime I turn off the game.

I second that. My computer runs the game with a few glitches (wonder movies jerky, and late game lag) but the biggest problem I've been having is the fact I can't load any of my saved games (autosave or otherwise). I hope a patch comes out soon to fix these glaring errors. Sid, Take 2, and Firaxis you better check in the mirror because you've got egg on your face.

My system doesn't crash but it takes a long time to go from "Done" to black screen to map to full game screen.

Considering the amount of troubles other people had installing this, I'm not complaining -- but it is interesting to note that this is yet-another-issue that might require a patch.

I am seeing the exact same issue. Everything seems fine until I try to load a saved game. I turned off autosave and started a new game.....same thing one I save exit, start the game again, and load that game. It seems to happen when I do the first action after loading.
It is a crazy bluescreen machine resetting crash...very annoying.

Simply quitting the game may not solve the memory problems if the pointers are corrupted.

It doesn't help me when restarting. I have tried 10-15 times I have had the same exact problem as others in this thread. Except now, I can't even load any game???? It lags on the "done" loading screen, games then loads(finally) then it seems after 5-10 seconds the games crashes to desktop.

How about a complete shutdown, waiting for appx 2 min, and then turning everything back on?

Not sure if this would speed up the loading process and/or getting the game to restart after it's loaded... it's beginning to sound to me like there's a glitch in the save file or a glitch in how the save file is read.

Ok, try starting a game and saving immediately and quitting.

If you can't even load that then there must be something wrong with the save file/reader.

Also, try an autosave, if you haven't turned that off.

I'm having a problem with loading my save games also. I totally wiped out the game, reinstalled four times now, restored to a day before I first installed the game and every single time the game will crash with a blue screen of death saying something about a memory dump (it flashes too quick to pick out anything else). This happens after exiting and then loading my save game after going back in and sometimes I can get to my map and move around but after a few minutes or if I try to go into the city view it will insantly crash and reboot. Also if I try to go back and just try to start a new game, it doesn't last a minute before crashing unless I do a restore before the first install and start a new game after reinstalling once again. My system beats all requirements handily. I've updated everything I can possibly think of. I work in IT so I'm not without my tricks but nothing is working. I'm completely at a loss as to what to do next.

Now I'm really confused... I got an autosave to load last night and it let me play for hours, but then I tried to load an autosave today and now it crashes again and even if I load the autosave from the very first turn of my game. I just don't get it. Why is this game such a piece of crap!

I am with travw on the blue screen but not what happens next

If I try to load a game it loads perfectly and will let me move around the map but if as soon as I start to do something it blue screens on me (not bsod btw). I then have to restart my computer by switching it off and on again, then when my comp loads up the installer fires up try’s to uninstall the game. The installer then crashes with out uninstalling any of the game. It’s just not right

A couple of us have a similar problem although in our case the computer reboots as soon as we click on a unit after loading a save. I don't get a blue screen of death or a crash to the desktop, just a complete reboot.

I had to go to my explorer and went to options to show hidden files to get into my local settings folder but the folders starting WER do not seem to exist. I do have one that starts with WER but the rest of the characters do not match. Not sure if someone can use this, but its something new. My autosave does load decent now as long as I have absolutely nothing else running and I make no clicks or movements until the map has fully loaded and the hard drive light stops going crazy. Only then will the game let me play. Loading my own save games still crashes without mercy however.
