Game crashing upon approaching new continent

Hello, I just started having a problem with a savefile I've been playing on for a while and was wondering if anyone has experienced something similar or knew of any way to fix it.

What happens is when I cross the ocean and try to land on another area, it crashes, one or two turns after seeing land. The odd thing is, I could have sworn that the map has at some point suddently changed. I was approached by the civilizations earlier and have been having ambasades so I have seen the location of the capitals of the other continent. Though they used to be to the east of the continent I am at. Now they are shifted to the south. So I'm wondering if that might be part of the problem? Some strangle glitch with the whole 'round world' thing?

I'm playing Brave New world, and a huge continents map.

There have been some other reports of crashes when approaching the "world wrap" point in BNW, for example this one.

Suggested work-around is to cross the world wrap point in strategic mode.

Someone also suggests in that thread that it's related to fog-of-war, and that clearing the fog around the world wrap point before crossing may also prevent the crash; if that's true, you could probably clear the fog from the world wrap point in strategic mode, and then be able to play without danger of crashing.

Someone from Firaxis has posted in the other thread I can find for this bug, so it seems they are aware that there's a crash, but I don't see as much useful information about what to do to avoid it in that thread.
