Right I got this for Xmas and have been arseing about with it since.
To start with basic game, the city name bar on the map didnt display properly, the population counter doesnt count, and the names and production fields were just blue lines, however after a 6 hour stint that was the only problem
Now that was quite annoying, at the time, and the check for updates didnt appear to be working, so I got a v1.09 from the firaxis site, and put that on.
All went fine until the very end when I got a message saying
Followed by checking for components and installing update (or somemthing) and it appeared to have finished the update anyway
Okay so I wap the game up, no change, another 6 hour stint followed, still the only problem, but its now evenmore annoying as Ive grasped the changes in the game from the previous incarnations and its making it very frustrating.
So I checked the check for updates bit and that worked this time, downloaded and installed, until about 75% of the way throuugh 1.52 patch installaton, it comes up with a fatal error along, with blank description fields saying its terminating installation. Hmmm oh dear.
Tried again, same thing.
Whacked the game up and was left with all sorts of problems, incompltete menus etc.
Tried to uninstall and everytime I did so it tried to reinstall the 1.52 patch, so had to manually delete files and use the setup from the CD manually to reinstall.
So back to square one, reinstalled, and then put 1.52 on straight away, and it went well until the last minute where I got the same error code as above (1706 no source etc).
Now I get city names, but no interface and/or fog of war permanatly, and or no meus and or lots of other masive problems which do make the game completely unplayable.
So I uninstall and try to play basic installation again, for the time being I can handle no city names, however despite not having any patches Iam faced with the same problems as above, fog of war, lack of interface etc.
tried unistallation etc several times no joy.
Now Iam looking for some help if anybody would be so kind, my system configuration is at least minimum requrements, particularly in graphics card and RAM, currently 64MB video and 256 ram.
Iam looking at possibly upgrading these to significantly higher, put dont particularly want to splash the cash if I can get away with it (its jus after Xmas and Iam pretty skint), plus the failureof the patches to work properly hasnt got me convinced that the problem is entirely with minimum spec.
One thing that has occured to me is that does Civ 4 come with a key number, having seen the game on some torrent sites, it says it has a keygen in there, is that the case with some versions (this could answer possibly my no source error problem)
Anyway if anyone has reached this point of the post and still has the will to live, let alone try and help in any way, any tips suggestions etc would be gratefully received!!
