Whenever I try to launch the game it gets as far as the loading screen and then freezes. Hard. No ctrl-alt-del, the only option is to restart the machine.
I've been messing with this on and off for two days now, and it feels to me like that problem is caused by some really messed up copy protection. Every time my machine would normally start to read from the disk, this happens.
Interesting note: in an attempt to get around this I tried to make an image of the disk using Clone CD. As soon as Clone CD started reading the disk, same thing happened.
Also, Clone CD was not installed when I first encountered this problem with the game itself, nor was any other emulation/virtual drive/etc. software, so it's not the game freaking about that.
I doubt it's a problem with the DVD drive, either. It's only about a year old and has never choked on copy protection before.
I hate to say it, but it feels like I might just have to wait for a no-cd crack to play my legitimatly purchased game.
