I am on a AMD Duron Computer that at least doubles the Megahertz and ram required, I have the actual directX8 video card in my computer working and have a 1-25x speed CD-rom. I insert the brandnew disc, installation goes off without a hitch, I click play the intro plays A little bit fuzzy, but I don't mind but when I get to the Civ 3 in game menu(right after the intro) The screen goes all black the music keeps playing however. I have also lokked at the go to the .ini file and add amnual refresh rate well 2 prooblems I don't have the CIV3PTW folder and it should be somerwhere else were is it! Version Information: No special package the the one I bought at a store there is nothing special about this game! YES I HAVE TRIED RE-INSTALLING!

Which Civ3 did you buy? Is it Civilization 3, Play the World, Gold, Conquests, or Complete? Gold has the Play the World expansion built into it, and Complete has both Play the World and Conquests expansions included.

If you are going add a manual refresh rate, for troubleshooting, use Refresh=60.

Just regular Sid Meier's CIV 3, BTW nice tag. And how would I go about setting the manual refresh rate without the .ini file

I found the ini file by soing to folder options on one of the drop-down menus on the top and displaying all hidden files except the system protected, but it still doesn't work

If you have just plain Civ3, then you won't have any Civ3PTW or Conquests folder, what you have is the "vanilla" version.

What kind of video card do you have? Can you give some specifications, like brand and model name? Same for the processor. How old is your computer? Are your drivers updated?

OT, yea, I got my sig from a whole bunch of communist jokes I heard once.

I have the same thing happen w/ Civ Chronicles version of PtW. All the menus are actually there though, and they appear if I move the selection up or down with the arrow keys. Give that a shot?

I use to get that sometimes, what I would do is close the game and run it again, the second time it would display properly. Is it just the menu screen, or does it prevent you from playing the game? Because if its only the menu and the game is still playable, I would just live with it and play the game.

no because on the first menu where it says play and stuff its black, also I have to restart my computer to get out of it,

Ps IDK what my video card is all I know is when I bought my computer it said video and sound cards anre Direct X8 compatable. I have emailed the offical atari tech suppost but it has been about 36ish hours so I could be Civ-less for a long while more.

I has a new shiny sig, Tee-hee, oh and my moniter is unknnown generic one that cannot dispalay the refresh rate of 100 or <

Well, if your computer is directx 8 compatible, that means it must be pretty old, especially since you said you have a Duron processor. It could just be that it's not handling the game like it should. You should find out what kind of video card you have and get the latest drivers for it, same with motherboard drivers. I forgot to ask earlier, what operating system are you running?
