First off let me say I love RoM and have been playing it a lot.
I like to play long games on big maps and eventually the game slows down a lot. That would be acceptable except that eventually it gets to the point where it will hang (I've let it run hours to see) or crash every few turns. Often I can reload at exactly the same point (I hit quicksave often) and it will work again for a few more turns. I can't pinpoint anything that I am doing that triggers it.
My computer is recent, fast, and big (quad core, 8GB, tons of fast disk). I am using the latest official Civ4 patch and RoM 2.91 without any special settings or changes but I saw the same thing in earlier releases, too. Other mods (Fall from Heaven) work OK; they can get slow late in a game but are more stable.
Are there some things to do to figure out what is going on? Maybe some settings to tweak? Any performance settings in general to try? It's not the graphics that are causing trouble; I've turned off everything with that and it doesn't appear to have any positive effects.
Thanks for any tips!
