Game wont open

Civilization VI will not open on my computer.\
1. In steam I press play
2. It asks me which version to play
3. It says running next to the name on the left
4. running disappears and nothing happens

Does anyone have a solution to this? I've look at videos and other threads but they haven't helped. I also was just playing this game yesterday and it worked fine.

I have had the same issue since the expansion. I've found 3 ways while still looking for the solution about how to open straight from the Steam library screen. First start Steam as an administrator. Game run from the steam screen sometimes. If not, then the small steam icon in your taskbar on the bottom right corner of the screen. You can make an icon for the game from Steam that will go on your desktop. That seems to always work. Civ 6 is the only game this happens. Tested a sample of 5 others, old and new, no problems. Have verified the installation files a million times. Seems to be a problem with the steam library screen and the game. Lots of folks on other forums (fori) have the same issue. Driving me nuts.

Thanks for the help on fixing the game, but for some reason when I opened steam today it started working again. I have no idea why this happened and it seems completely random.

And the DX12 play button worked for me too. Random is the worst. Desktop icon always works but if your really stuck, run game directly from steam installation, /steamapps/common/civilizationVI.exe (whichever version you want). Good Luck
