Player input is more than welcome on future Gauntlet ideas. Suggestions may be as general or specific as you like. Just remember it needs to be within HOF rules, and have a specific victory condition.

Variety is the spice of life. Apart from this I have no specific suggestions I'm afraid. I personally find 100K games tedious but apart from that I'll probably participate in anything that's put forward.

As someone new to this, I am finding this gauntlet very interesting - mainly the discussion around it - I am learning a lot of stuff.

Who would have thought that the words "small deity spacerace" would completely change the way I look at Deity level games???

how about a tiny histographic game? I assume those will go faster than a huge one, so people can try multiple games. I've never done one of those, either.

Maybe a "standard conquest with Arabia" or something - or is that too specific/similar to GOTM?

the summary of recent 4 month:
2005-11

2005-12
* Difficulty: C3C Deity
* Mapsize: Tiny
* Victory: Culture 100k
* Due: January 4th

2006-01

* Mapsize: Small
* Victory: Diplomatic
* Due: Feb 4th

2006-02

Victory: Spaceship

as cycle trait, this time maybe need a dom victory.

and as a non-warmonger, I can skip this one to rest for a long time,
the recent two games cost me too many too many patience.

inspire by "The idiot's guide to 20k" by sanabas, if 20K I will try once.

and as a historic game, such a development route
born ->mature -> flourish -> decline ->fade,
is a nature property.

so this game, Due may be 45days to meet 1st May.
and next maybe 60days cycle.

Domination sounds fun. I have my only number one slot on Large regent but it's a poor date and really needs to be bettered. Both regent and warlord only have three entries with dates nowhere near as good as cheiftain and monarch so maybe they are the areas to be hit. The games should be finishing at least in the early ADs and probably into the BC era so they are quite quick.

Is a large map too big for some people's tastes? If that's the case I'm also happy with a much smaller map. Dave McW showed us all how to do this with his fantastic 1575BC finish for Tiny Emperor a while back. I'm not sure that I could get anything near that but I do need to work on these skills.

I'm also inspired by Sanabas' thread and so I'm equally keen on 20K.

Just no milking please.

I would be willing to try a large map - have been hankering to try arabia for domination on a large map - I figure Horsemen/ansars/cavalry is a great way to take over a large world.

I'd prefer more variety, what if we unfix one or two parameter(s): size, level?
- we could play for best regent diplo or
- fastest tiny 20 k

The opposite - fixing some additional parameters (map, civ, etc) could also lead to interesting competition.

Since free time seems to be a limited resource I wouldn't suggest anything big.

They are faster than larger map sizes, but still take quite a while. I thought I played my Tiny Demigod game very quickly (maybe a little too quickly) and it still took nearly 15 hours!

well then - i think we should not do histographic games ;)

I think the gauntlet is interesting because people can try multiple strategies and have multiple attempts. I mean - I never came close to matching Tone's 1030 AD launch, but boy it was fun to try, or archphoenix's 940 AD!! wow...

Tiny and small conquest have been inactive because it's so hard to beat the Aztec and Inca dates that fill the tables (except for Sid and small Deity).

Any suggestions for reviving interest in these? They are quick to play.

Small Sid Conquest is a pretty open table. I would be interested in that.

I can't begin to think how I'd tackle that one, which actually makes it a good choice. My fighting skills need impoving so why not with Sid?! Bluejay's other suggestion of small Diety could be an alternative of course but warring on Sid appeals more to me as it would be a new adventure.

If it wasn't popular with many others and so didn't feature in a forthcoming gauntlet, I'd be up for sharing ideas in a new thread.

But there's minimal skill involved on the lower levels. You either get a good map location, guess the right direction, and win your battle, or you don't. All 3 are down to luck, it's just down to how many 10 minute games you want to play. So not much interest here. Harder &/or larger conquest maps sound a bit better.

As for suggestions: huge 20k sid. :crazyeye:

As for serious suggestions, there are still plenty of weak dates at #1 in various tables, across all victory types. I'd suggest using those first, and just cycle through various sizes, difficulties and VCs. I have no real preference for which sort, in theory I'll play regardless, in practice I get sidetracked and run out of time occasionally. One of the best aspects of the gauntlets, as already said, is as an educational resource, giving people new ideas, new ways to approach games, or showing them they can win on harder levels. So I'd aim for gauntlets that encourage that sort of teaching.

yeah - it's pretty hard to improve on a 6 turn win.
Tiny Deity might be interesting, unless those are just dominated by people who manage to catch the AI settlers...

Though it's not likely to happen, I'd like to see some variant in the HOF that would make Tiny Conquest interesting to play.

Any ideas?
