The card comes oc out of box. The patch is worthless. Thank you for reply.

this is sign of bad AGP connection on the motherboard, or burned piplines on the card... also oc does this too... you can reduce gpu and gpu mem. clock using coolbits (search on net for it)

If this only happens with Civ IV, it doesn't mean that your computer is bad. There are so many apologists, who are unwilling to accept the fact that this game is poorly coded. It has incompatibility issues with certain setups, memory leaks, graphic issues, stuttering. You can't play the game, unless you surpass the recommended settings on the box. This game is poison. When it works, its fun; the rest of the time, its irritating trash.

Exactly the same problem with a 6600GT. It happens often when you're in an in-game menu/diplomacy screen, right?

Go to BIOS, adjust the AGP aperture downwards (I had mine at 64, changing it to 32 solved the problem for me).

That is interesting Rebby- I will try that. What driver are you using?

Commraddict- The card is new and works fine with COD and MS Train Sim.
My last card ( an MX400 ) was toasted just after install and playing CIV IV for a few days. Could very well be a coincidence. Could that have damaged my motherboard Board: SiS-648FX
Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG 06/10/2003.
I'm using a rolled back driver and I could play the game for about a half hour before CTD. I usually get a Dr. Watson. Thanks for replying.

Paccali - Thanks for reply; with all the posts on this board it does look like the game has got major problems! FUBAR

Civ4 runs great now, except for random crashes (lockups, alt-tab, program termination message).

On SP, normal map, I go about 30-50 turns before crash (random). On MP (hotseat) large maps, it's about 10-20 turns. A lot of the errors appear to be cvgamecoredll.dll problems (but there are other others).

How do I adjust the AGP Aperture Size? I don't see a setting for that in my BIOS.
