I recently started a d+1 game with barb wrath, and I was just looking for some tips. I have read the d+2 and 3 threads, and it looks like the strategy is expand for black faces and beg... Any general tips would be apriciated!

You're going to have a hard time getting wonders. The most important for you will be Michaelangelo's chapel. Keep this in mind when planning techs and production. As you get close to monotheism you should be getting the caravans ready to build it.

Because of the double-unhappies, Republic will be easier than you think, because luxuries will go farther. Don't delay getting there too long.

An alliance is critical - you'll be small enough that an alliance with whoever you meet first will be quite likely. If you're alone, focus on getting out to sea to find someone.

One thing we found was that if a city starts in disorder, you're probably best off letting it stay in disorder while it grows big enough for an elvis (or more arrows to get 2 luxury cups when in republic). A city in disorder does not produce shields or gold, but it does produce its full compliment of food and beakers, so you can keep your research going.

...and beakers? Didn't know that either...

I think the hardest part of D+ levels is the early game. If you fail to get production and science going you will fall too far behind.

In D+ games I am more selective when choosing city sites. I think whale and silk specials are good to use early on. A size 2 city using whale + forest or silk + forest will produce five shields and a ~ 50% luxury rate will keep the city in order, provided it has a double unhappy citizen.

Hanging Gardens makes a huge difference on this level. Built it and keep cities small. Focus on expansion early in the game. Switch to Republic.

I have already swiched to republic, and I went straight for marco the moment I could. I didn't have a spot for scc, so I didn't have to worry about colosus... I now understand how cities can be left withought defence, having not build units for crowd cntrol... I beg from my allies almost every turn (I'm allied with everyone), but I don't want to beg from two of them because they are at war, so I'm left to four possible charitable sources. I seem to get gold, and I wonder what I should do with it. I put a bit into caravans, but just saved most for a rainy day... My taxes are at 10%, just so I get a bit on income. I was fortunate to start off near the seashore, but found myself less fortunate than I thought, being on an island, but then finding rivals sonn after I explored the mainland, so it all evened out.

Yesterday night I survived 1 1/2 major barb uprisings. The first one, many barbs came out from the shadows but not the full brunt. It wasn't to bad, as I didn't have any cities close by, so I rushbought a dip, and went to bribing... I found that I now knew what the cash from the charitable donations is for... I was lucky enough to get the barb leader that time, so my costs werent that bad. The second time, I bribed some more, and used a bribrd horsmen to kill the stack of 74 units. It was a very good thing that I had read the d+2 succession game, as it gave me much strategy. I also started to wonder if an uprising on a mountain range could be destroyed. I have also got mikes now, and as soon as a city grows to size two, I rush build a settler and then send it out to found another city. I started begging form everyone again, giving the ones at war techs, or sometimes money, but I usualy got back most, if not all, of the money that I gave them. Marco is becoming the most important thing I have done in this game. My cities are almost all at size one, and once I have enough to get black faces everywhere, or just about, I will grow to size three and celebrate up as much as I can...
