I am really disappointed. I finally got Colonization for Windows a few days ago.

The graphics were good. The music and sounds were all anyone could ask for. And it all looked like I was in for a wonderful adventure of setting sail from England to the New World.

Not so. The game goes along awhile. Then you click something. Blue screen of Death.

I once had to quit the game, and when I did, something hung - music lingered - I couldn't get it to stop - and when I tried to restart my computer, I couldn't. Had to just cut it off which meant scanning my c drive on reboot.

In the last few days, I have seen the Blue Screen of Death more times than I have in 5 years!

I have Windows 98se Dell desktop. Civ 1 for Windows, Civ 1 DOS, and Civ Net all play beautifully on it. Not once have I ever had my computer crash with these games or seen the Blue Screen.

So as much as I regret giving up on playing Colonization, I think it is the wise thing to do.

Maybe someday there will be a Colonization 2 that we can all enjoy without a hassle.

Colonization has some problems running under Win2000/XP. You might fare better trying to run it under DosBox.

Colonization is a very good game, it might even be worth buying an Amiga to play it. An Amiga with a monitor should almost be yours for free if you find one. I have it on Amiga -I have never tried the Windows version. (Often games back then were much better on Amiga than DOS/Windows pc's.)

Alas, that's all I can say. And I wish good luck.
