global warming increased in 1.09?

I'm only on my first game in 1.09, I'm getting affected by global warming pretty badly -3 or 4 squares in my territory have turned to desert (thankfully mostly on mountains, but destroyed a good river tile too).

In all my previous games of Civ 4, I was never affected once by global warming.

Has anyone else seen this happen too since installing 1.09? Maybe it's just a few nuclear plants of the AI players having melted down on the other side of the world.. which has never happened to me in any civ game ever, but it seems a bit of a coincidence to happen in the game right after patching.

Yup, same thing. No ICBM launches either.

I find that I have to change my environmental-containment policies (ie, strategy) much earlier ... and it's still tougher.
