So... do I need to add the variables from this file to the original globaldefines file or does this mod read them automatically?

The install readme isn't clear.

Also, it would be nice to have an install instruction for those of us who want ONLY the AI improvements, and NOT the unofficial bugfixes.

Hm... no one? I tested if they are read by modifying the techcost variable: <DefineName>TECH_COST_MODIFIER</DefineName> to 100 and whether this was in the original globaldefines or in the ALT version the tech costs did not change.

So are these variables even read??

grrr. 20 views and no response? so this works well for everyone else jsut placing it in the xml directory? it doesn't appear to load these variables when I do it, though BBAI says it's loaded.

My one view comes from reading and understanding what you wrote yet being unable to help you. I think the whole last passage of said xml belongs to the mysterious component called techdiffusion. How it works exactly, what all these values do or if it is even active, I have yet to uncover.
I don't even know if techdiffusion is still a part of BBAI, if it ever was, or if those values are just remains of old days. I once asked about it, and was simply ignored.

I finally figured out that it does indeed load- but it doesn't work quite as I understood it to work. In fact increasing to 100% stops all tech advancing, rather than increasing by 100% the cost.

So I got it all working for now.
