EDIT: 02:42 GMT - See 2nd post for why you may not be able to use the Globe view

The game will now no longer show the world as a globe and displays the world as flat like Civ 3. I could zoom out above the clouds and spin the globe when i first installed the game and played the tutorial and a quick game but when I loaded a bigger map the game locked up after loading and now presents this problem.

Steps to reproduce:

Load Game
Start a scenario/tutorial/multiplayer game with any combination of map type and civ options
zoom view out above cloud level, the map is 'flat'
click globe view button, game zooms into a tile
no globe view

My sound also now skips and sometimes the terrain turns black. I've reinstalled after clearing out all the folders Civ uses.

There is a thread in another sub-forum (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=136424) where someone else has the same problem but I thought it needed to be here.

EDIT 13:54 03/11/05 GMT: Included steps to reproduce the problem

You have to discover 'calendar' before you see the world is round, because untill then the world was flat don't ya know ;)

Ah ha! Nice one PiTiFUL.

It seems i can spin the globe once i get the calendar tech but I didn't see it properly because of the random black tiles problem. I was ready to kick myself for not paying more attention to the Civlopedia/Tech Tree/Manual but they all say calendar 'centers world map' which i must have thought meant that you can see how much of the map you haven't explored and not you can spin the globe  Ah well, this can serve as a warning to people who want to jump into the game and spin the globe really fast like I used to do at school.

Now if only the maps didn't randomly crash when loading, the movies didn't stutter and my random black tiles were ok

Actually if you are the first to get mysticism and then build stonehenge it will also center the map. They still should address this in a patch though because before the map gets centered it gives you all kind of issues when you get near the edge.
