Do you ever try to maximise this pantheon?

Anyone who studies Greek mythology knows Dyonisus is the most popular therefore most powerful God.

Do you ever notice that the AI will swoop up the Monestaries pretty fast. Go ahead, just try to get them when you really want them.

Here is a nice screen shot. Its hard to tell but there are 7 wines there. Just when I thought I could stop at three cities, what should appear on the horizon? Incense!

Coincidence? I am not sure.

GoF and monasteries do seem good for wine but insence is usually found on completely lackluster desert tiles.

I've had two games with a good amount of wine and incense where I grabbed God of Festivals but then Ethiopia stole Monasteries before I could found my religion. He paid for it in both games. I would have been a religious monster if I would have gotten Monasteries. My grudge with Ethiopia got bigger after those games...

I actually considered choosing this in the game I just won. (3 win in capital + 1 wine each in first ring city sites.)

But I went with Stone Circle instead when I saw that I had a first ring city site with 2 Stone + 1 Marble and another first ring site with another stone.

(I prefer 8 faith per turn to 5 culture + 5 faith per turn). I was however planning on choosing as a follower belief the Monastery one, but the Babylonian AI beat me to a religion and choose it. They also stole the other follower belief I wanted.

Game over. I am so pissed.

I had a game as Arabia. Ended up in a great dessert location, with tons of wine. So, naturally, I rushed to build a shrine. Figure I'd either go Desert Folklore or GOF. Two turns left before I can create my pantheon.

BAM!

Ethiopia grabs desert folklore. I say, "That's okay, I'll take GOF."

One turn to go....

BAM!

Celts grab GOF

I rage quit!!

I guess in this case I could have waited for islam to spread to me, bought the monestary and then overwritten islam with my own religion. It would have taken longer, but I would have still gotten the benefit.

I'm now playing a new game than I was in the earlier post. And this just so happens to be my first game in which I succeeded in getting Monastery; it is an extremely popular belief with the AI. (This start has 2 wine for the capital and another 2 wine for a first ring city and so I also got God of Festival)

I think I succeeded only because I rolled the Mayans and so was able to use their UB combined with the above to be first in the world to a religion. But I probably rolled AIs with lower religious flavor this time as well. (I also used my UA combined with a deep beeline to Theology to be first to enhance my religion.)
