I created this as a self-help for my HOF game and thought it might be useful to others.

If I didn't know half of this by heart already, I'd surely bookmark this. Thanks for this CommandoBob!

Interestingly if you are commercial and you dobt have a productive city on a coast, your UU becomes your best way of kicking of your Golden Age.

Commecial Tribes

English - Capital should be on a coast - UU at sea
French - UU is Muskateer - defensive
Korea - UU is cannon replacement
Greece - UU is anciant age but defensive
Hittites - UU is chariot
India - War Elephant - Chivalry is ideal for India
Rome - Ancient age UU require Iron

Thanks for the much needed addition! :)

Thanks, Commando Bob! Nice, easy to consult resource. For certain of the AA wonders, this might be an additional reason not to build them so you don't get an AA golden age.

As I understand from reading SGs, you can also capture the wonder(s) you need, but the GA check doesn't happen until you build a wonder, so:

Capture or build a needed wonder, capture another needed wonder, self-build any wonder = Golden Age

So if you're commercial, go capture a commercial wonder and then build your other wonder, or if you capture the commercial wonder second, build any other wonder after that to start the GA.

Thank you for this Cbob. I was just wondering what would trigger a GA in my Myan game and this post came in very handy. I like stuff like this - see it all in one place

This is a very handy list. In my current game as Portugal (sea, exp) my first wonder was the Great Lighthouse and suddenly I was in my Golden Age. :) If I had read this first I would have known it was coming, fortunately I had just changed government from Despotism.

That set me to thinking which other civs also had a useful one-wonder GA:

Byzantines - Mausoleum of Mausolles
Celts - Pyramids
China - Great Wall
Egypt - Pyramids
England - Colossus
Hittites - Colossus or Lighthouse
Japan - Knights Templar or Statue of Zeus
Maya - Hanging Gardens
Portugal - Colossus, Lighthouse or Magellans
