Hello! First time post here.

Generally, I just accept Golden Ages when they come and consider it a happy bonus for "x" amount of turns. I wonder if I am under-utilizing the Golden Age mechanic.

Please tell me how you guys utilize the "Golden Age."
-Do you specifically plan when and how to start them?
-Do you use them to specifically target a particular goal?
-Are there useful synergies with particular Civilizations or Victory conditions?

Thank you in advance for your thoughtful discussion.

They are great for wonder production and attaining new policies. I try to get them when i'm targeting a specific wonder that the AI would go for. As for relating to other civilizations, Persia's UA gives 50% longer GA and during GA, its units get +1 movement and 10% combat bonus. Brazil gets +100% tourism and 50% to art-related great people.

The only timed golden ages you might want is during the world's fair (and international games as Brazil). The world's fair culture bonus combined with the golden age culture bonus, plus a pair of great writers popped 8 turns later can net you all the culture you need to finish ascetics (CV) or rationalism (SV).

It's best to try and pop Great Writers during Golden Ages, as they get a big boost in the culture they produce through their political treatise if you do (and want to use them for that).
