Google maps in a decent language?

Do this: go into Google maps ( http://maps.google.com ) type in Japan and try to zoom in and scroll around.

Does anyone have an idea how to see the names of the places in something else than Kanji jibberish (i.e. English, German, Spanish, Romanian... something with latin characters)?

No the names are hardcoded into the map image. If you don't understand the Kana and Kanji then just use it for the satellite images. You can find better and more detail romanized maps of Japan anyways. The real names of cities and towns in Japan is so different from the English names that even if they were written in romanji you probably wouldn't recognize them. The data is probably more usefull in Kanji for travelers etc.
