This is the thread where you tell us how you did - win, lose or retire.

Only read or post in this thread when your game is ended and successfully submitted.

i finally finished this epic game in 510ad with a domination win. :yeah:

i had some strange problem with the last turn but somehow it worked the next day.

win dates:
Game status: Domination Victory for Aztecs
Game date: 510 AD
Firaxis score: 9230

[stupid me only now realizes that this is not civforum where i just posted before and I am writing German :crazyeye:]
Celts were a surprising walkover, though.
Persia had become strong and had muskets, so i only took their islands and did not invade them anymore. England had been my long-time ally and only declared on me in the last turns. i had a smaller invasion force prepared for that reason. i believe they were not very strong, however, they also had GP.
in the last turns even Edu got researched (and i got it via GLib). Research was a big surprise. the AIs managed to get to Edu and Chem - would never have believed that.
Spain was eliminated on the very last turn, Celts had a faraway exclave till the last turn.

so sahen meine Zentren auf der Startinsel und in Franzosenland aus (ein paar Füllstädte für zusätzliche Dom-Felder in der letzten Runde gegründet):

very interesting but a bit time consuming set-up. took all my civ time, but i liked it. thanks for creating that game, i believe there were lots of nice details, and sure you created emperor AIs with a dent here! :goodjob:

Well, I tried the "opposite approach" of greatbeyond's India game here: carefully hand-select the start positions of all AIs and then -- beef them up! :D

But I see you still did the job without having to resort to Cavalry. So I wonder what will be needed in order to make Military Tradition worthwhile for a Dom game? (The chances for the Hussar appear pretty low, don't they?! :crazyeye:)

Did any of the AIs manage to get to muskets in your game? (Besides Persia.)

that was quite obvious, and it worked out well.

re muskets:
England and Persia did, towards the end, but even against muskets horses are doing ok if there are not too many of them... only with rifles the logistics of shipping horses to the front does not pay off any more in my eyes.

i think the biggest chance for cavs derives from the need for better ships. thus, make it continents and a gap of 5+ tiles between them and you practically need to research up to the end of MA... making MT only a 2-more-tech-investment.

Well, Archipelago is not very suitable to this purpose, since
  • AI research will be slow until they finally have contacts
  • their territories will be small
  • there can be no runaway AI civ

I managed to send the Aztecs to space with just 4 hours left on the deadline :woohoo:.

In the end I really had to hurry up (also had a job waiting ...), so I lost a few turns in the end as I could not optimize.

Game status: Spaceship Victory for Aztecs
Game date: 1585 AD
Firaxis score: 5581
Jason score: 7708

I filled my island first, then went after the French, English, Spanish. Palace was moved to Lyons, FP built in Tenochtitlan, so I had a similar setup as templar (only a few turns later ...).

One strange thing I noticed at the end. The bombers had a range of something over 300, so you could basically bomb any place on the map from anywhere. Thank god I was not in a war with a Civ that could actually build bombers.

Wow.
I didn't change anything in the biq file we have been using for the last couple of games. So it must have been like that for quite a while already. I'll see what I can find and then upload a fixed biq file in the games announcement thread.

We added this change to the scenarios just a while ago. Someone said it was something that was set like that in the now lost original GOTM scenario files.

Edit: AlanH posted this in the Current Game Schedule thread:

Air Unit Operating Ranges most have been increased up to the maximum hardcoded limit in Civ3v1.29

Air Unit Operating Ranges most have been increased up to the maximum hardcoded limit in Civ3v1.29

I remember reading that sentence already when I played my first ever GOTM (GOTM69 in 2007). Not sure, what it actually means, but I always thought it meant that bomber range is now 10 instead of 6. If it would have been 300, I would have noticed in one of the GOTMs I played over the last 8 years... :mischief:

BTW: we already discussed this point a while ago: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=13619551&postcount=46

Still, "the maximum hardcoded limit" is pretty unambigous.

What do you say, shall we set the limits to 10 and 16 as in C3C for both games? It seems pretty reasonable.

Sounds ok for me. (And I think, this is what we had for all GOTMs that I can remember since 2007, where I happened to get into the industrial age?!) I can do it for the next GOTM and then attach the updated bix file to our planning thread again.

Was that an offer to create this game:

GOTM142 Russia Monarch Standard Diplomatic

To all players: We are now three players regularly creating games for xOTM: Lanzelot, greatbeyond and me.

If someone else would also consider creating the one game or other, please drop a note in this thread!

This thread contains the game schedule for next year and the rest of this year, after the game schedule provided by mad-bax has expired. There are quite a lot of games to choose from! Perhaps you want to create the yearly Sid or Warlord game? Or set up a scenario with your favourite civ?

Creating a game really isn't that difficult. The editors come with the game. All you have to do is to open the editor, load GOTM.bix for a PtW GOTM or one of COTM.biq and COTM_A.biq for a C3C COTM, create a map using the built-in function and then make some small formal changes in the Scenario dialog. There's no requirement to adapt the map or the units.

If you feel unsure about adapting the Scenario properties in the editor, just say so and I'll create a custom .bix or .biq file for you with all these changes already done. All that remains is then to load the file, press the "create map" button, save and exit and then email me or AlanH the file.

I've updated the GOTM.bix file with the operating ranges of Conquest and posted it in the Game Schedule 2015 - 2016 thread.

Please use this file.

The files for COTM in COTM.zip have also been updated.
