Can you have more than one governor? How do you get governors?
I've played a few games with the new expansion and have got a governor at around turn 50. The governor added a lot. Is this all there is for governors?

You get governor titles from completing specific civics. The first ones are State Workforce and Early Empire. Typically, if I'm not mistaken, there are 2 civics per era that give governor titles. Additionally, you get a governor title when you complete your Government Plaza or a building in it.

You can use a governor title either to unlock a new governor or to give a governor you already have a promotion. I believe that, not counting Future Civic (which gives a governor title every time you complete it) you get 20 governor titles throughout the game, assuming you build a Government Plaza with three buildings. On top of that, you can get three titles from a wonder. That means you get enough titles to basically fully promote three governors or to get all governors with about 2 promotions. So you don't get to upgrade all your governors fully, but you can go for either unlocking them all or upgrading some fully.

I feel like there definitely should be alternative methods for generating "governor points" added in the future. That doesn't sound like nearly enough for some of the larger games I sometimes play.

Or I suppose governors are meant to act simply as a steady, early-game bonus resource to help get your civ up and running.

Either way, I'm enjoying these new systems. Civ VI is definitely becoming its own beast.

Yes, you can have more than one. And you will get an era bonus
when you have all 7.

Future civic gives an additional title.

Can you build more than one government plaza or are you limited to one city? If you can build in more than one city, do you get a governor for each one constructed?

You can only build one.
