GP scientists won't rush tech advances

I recently bought CIV IV and I've run into a little glitch. For some reason, my GP scientists won't rush tech advances when I try to use them to rush technology. My GP scientist will just dissapear in a flash (same as any other GP use), but when I check my science advisory screen, it shows no change (the tecnology was not added, and I have to research it from scratch).

I recently downloaded the 1.62 patch thinking it was a glitch that would fix it, but apparently it wasn't. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you fix it.

Also, I want to add a custom avatar that I use in one of my other forums. I went under the "edit avatar" option in the CP dropdown menu, but it only offers the CIV IV predefined options. I tried copy & paste, that didn't work. How do I add my own custom avatar?
 
I recommend that you post a save game just before burning a scientist on a tech. We can compare the results.

You need to be a member here for 30 days, and have 30 posts before you can have a custom avatar.
 
ok, I'm attaching a couple of saved games here. I'm playing Elizabeth as the English on dual map (because the Huge map that I.ve been playing on seems to exceed the 500 kb max save game size). The 1958 saved game is the before-use of my GP scientist in York. I click on the Discover Technology option and it's used for gaining Fission. The 1960 saved game is the after-use saved game one turn later. Note that Fission is not credited to me in the science advisory screen, and I have to start completely from scratch if I want to discover it. I'm not sure what's going on here? I surfed through all the tech support threads in this forum yesterday looking for this particular problem, but there were no posts for it (that I could find).

By the way, one thing I’ve noticed is that I’ll get credited correctly for discover Tech with the early scientist (the ones with the Medieval costume) but the modern era scientist (White Lab coats) result in no Tech Discovery when I try that option (the other options seem to work correctly). That’s kind of odd, but that’s what’s happening.

Has anyone any idea what's going on here? I downloaded the 1.62 patch the day before yesterday, I'm still having the same problem.
 
ok, I didn't realize the scientist only partially discovered tech, because the early age scientist discover the entire tech & the science advisory screen turns green (whereas the modern age stays the same color). I guess there's really no point in using gp scientist to discover tech, seems better to use them as super specialists imo.

Say one tech need 30 (or 500 golds) turns to discover. Use great scientist to discover it will give you 250 golds in research that tech. It will make you need only 15 turns to discover the tech.

Is there any 1.62 patch? AFAIK, it is 1.61 patch.
