Graphics Mysteries: Globe View Buildings Disabled? Globe View Quality?

I've been playing with these options in Civ and I see no discernable effect. (I haven't measured memory usage or anything, just trying to see what they do in terms of visual gameplay.)

Globe Quality - High, Medium, Low. Playing a Huge map with all the settings cranked up, I can see no difference between high medium and low. My "layman's common sense" thought this would mean the textures used to render each mountain/forest/hill/ocean tile from the globe/space view, but the quality looks kinda low no matter what I set it to. I can't tell any difference, can you? Does this option control something else?

Globe View Buildings Disabled - Buildings can still be seen individually in Globe View, albeit at a small size. I would LOVE to have this option remove buildings or substitute the whole city with a generic tile texture, since it seems that small trick would make Globe View zoom zoom zoom :p...but this option appears to do nothing.

What am I missing?

To be honest the high/medium/low graphics settings don't seem to change the texture quality much anywhere. Disabling the buildings in globe view definitely seemed to remove them on my computer, and just replaced the cities with a generic city tile. At least they all look basically the same, though I suppose it could just be they're shrunk so much.

Huh, that's weird. I don't get the generic city tile at all. Maybe Harkonnen's patch is messing with that?...I have been testing it recently :)

Lower textures mainly seem to affect Civilopedia entries and the opening screen, from what I've seen. The effect is really obvious if you go to the leader menu and you see all the face icons blurred. But when you go to click on the actual leader, their animation looks just about the same. Even the backgrounds don't seem to change based on texture settings.

You can also see a change in the building textures if you look at the "preview" anim of the building entry.

Thanks for your reply,

Yes, I have spotted exactly the same thing. I will address this in the next version of my fix. You can find it in 'utility programs' sub-forum.

Also, most problems with movies (and sluggish leaders) are due to continued 3D rendering of the map in background. This will be fixed as well.
