When I started playing Civ IV I thought GM where the most worthless of all the great people, but now when I realised that if jou can push out a few GM in the first half of the game and during peace time send a caravel as far away as possible and gain something between 2500 - 4000 gold, your science level is guaranteed for a long time while you can bild units and any other structures you want without having to push for the economical buildings all the time.

Anyone think the same???

i felt the same way until i realized that you can make the easy cash with the trade routes... i agree with you they are somewhat overpowered...

They have theis upsides... but people around here have been trowing around words like "unbalanced" an "overpowered" way too loosley for a while now.

"powerful" / "useful in a context"... is one thing, OVERpowered is another.

Seriously; is everything in CIV overpowered? -Everything?!! -Really?!

In Warlords, you dont get that much money. In my current game, i sent GM to the other side of my continent and it took 16 turns for the GM to get there. And i would only get 2000 Gold. That's not overpowered

Hear, hear!

One of the things that make Civ4 such a cool game is that stuff (units, traits, actions etc.) actually have noticable impact. So a lot of things can seem overpowered. The thing is though, there is so much powerful stuff, it all balances out in the end.

+50% Wonder production?! (Industrious trait)

Free Amphibious promotion that stays when unit upgrades?! (Viking Berserkers)

No Barbarians anywhere within your borders ever?! (Great Wall)

Everything has impact, and I for one think that is good.

no, just some ppl are wrong.

merchants are not overpowered.

GM+Bank+Market+Grocer+Wall Street is better IMO.
Thats like 18GPP and 1 food to help run more merchants.

The fact that so many "XZY is overpowered"-threads are floating around really proves that overpowered features are not a big problem.

Overpowered in my opinion means that one feauture is so strong that every optimal strategy in a certain situation automatically involves said feature.
